Dirk Pitt or 007?
This is a terrific entry in the popular Dirk Pitt series, where our intrepid hero assumes even more of a Bond persona than usual, possessing the ability to get out of even the most fatal-seeming situations. The Japanese setting gives a very definite feel of You Only Live Twice (the film rather than the book). Written at a time when the Japanese were seen as an economic threat to the USA, the story extends this dramatically and - in some ways - all too plausibly. There are any number of stories about the postwar threat of a Fourth Reich, but few (if any) others about a resurgence of extreme and violent nationalism in Japan. Highly recommended for Pitt fans, and fans of the Connery/Moore Bond era.

Dear old Dirk ...
... you can stab him, shoot him, drown him, even detonate a nuclear bomb next to him - and he'll always bounce back for more. This is the most "Bond-like" of the NUMA books that I've read so far. The villains are suitably nefarious, taking great delight in revealing their earth shattering plans for global domination to Dirk in their secret hideaway. Pitt beds a couple of passing lovelies with great insouciance. And there are guns, gadgets, rockets, cars, planes and submersibles galore! It's all hokum and lashings of it, with toe curlingly unbelievable dialogue to boot. But, like millions of others, I loved every non-PC, morally ambivalent, escapist page of it!

Brilliant
Excellent storytelling by Clive Cussler. It took me some time to decide to buy any of his books but I'm glad I did because they are so different from what I usually read. I will gladly read other books in the different series that he has written.

Justly called a blockbuster
Cuddled never fails to write amazing novels with possible but far watched plots. Once again Dirk Pitt saves the world. It would spoil your enjoyment of the tale to say more. So get a comfy chair and a six pack or whatever you drink and switch off the phone. Enjoy

Worth a read
Not read this one for years and at 99p on amazon thought it worth another go. I thoroughly enjoyed it, of course it's a load of nonsense really, coincidence piles on coincidence but it rattles along at pace.Much better than his recent books. Worth a read.

Great Read
Old school Custler. The book is a ride of emotion and very well written. Dirk Pitt once again is the hero, couldn’t put it down in. The end
