Sources in the History of the Modern Middle East

I've read through chapter 4 of this book so far. Some of the stories are very interesting and all represent one person's perspective during a particular time period. Some were very boring and a lot of unfamilar words which slow down the reading. There are 5 sections to each chapter and each section has 3 discussion questions. Some are easier to answer than others. This book would be okay to read...maybe a few sections at a time for class...but having to read and answer 5 chapters worth of questions for one assignment (75 questions) is excessive and interest is lost.

Now this book was assigned for my college course on global cultures. The subject as the title of the book suggests we are looking into the Middle East. A lot of the documents within each chapter are really surprising this was stuff we were never taught about. due to most school systems in the United States completely omitting any teachings of other countries for the most part to focus on war's, Causes/movements, and feats of our founding fathers and presidents.I will be honest in saying I may have never picked this book up. I will also say that this is not a traditional textbook. It's not simply laid out with chapter outlines, headings, and vocabulary. Its about looking at documents written by people during that particular time based on certain subjects like social reform, government authority, Nationality and more. You have to think critically while and after each reading. I welcomed this as opposed to answering questions out of a book.

Interesting, but difficult to read, to many formal resolutions and letters. Anyway for those who like original sources on the subject - great book

The state in which I received this textbook was laughable. For the amount you pay to rent it, you'd think the book would be in one piece. Retire it.

The original sources cited in this book are certainly right from the horse's mouth, so to speak. The media sources included in this book are all originals. The author also provides analyses for these sources, which provides background information to help the reader understand the mindset of the authors.
