Yeah, we're committed. We have 'em all over the house and their better than Google except...
You think these are better than Google devices? Yes. They are. But... and I'm an expert. I have these things all over the house and I also have some Google devices. Some of these Echo devices have the time, and that's really cool. When you say, "Alexa, what's the temperature?" it not only tells you but shows you the temperature. This is cool. So it's not just the time that it shows. but sometimes it shows you the temperature while it's giving you the temperature. Nice feature. So let me explain. My wife and I bought into Alexa devices early on. We have two Gen 1 devices and a bunch of Gen 4 devices. The Gen 1 devices you have to activate with the word "Alexa." The Generation 4 devices can have male voices. We activate ours with "Ziggy" from some stupid old TV show Quantum Leap. So now there's a guy's voice and I activate it with "Ziggy" rather than "Alexa."You can't activate this with any word you want. You have to choose between a few voices, but at least now you don't have to have the female "Alexa" voice if you prefer something else, which in this household my wife prefers the male voice. So to activate it we say, "Ziggy, turn on the living room lights."Sometimes (not all the time) Ziggy responds, "A few things share the name room. Which one do you want?" and I have to repeat "living room" and then the living room lights come on. So annoying. But it can also detect when I enter the living room and turn on the lights just by walking through the living room. It does that by magic. Actually, it detects a change in the wifi signal by walking through the room. Pretty cool.My house is full of smart bulbs most of which are from Kasa, and smart plugs. I'm not sure it was a good idea, but that's what it is, and it's nice to say "Ziggy, play music everywhere" and everywhere in the house is the same music. Or, "Ziggy, make the porch purple" and the porch light turns purple. I even have one of those artificial fireplaces that the seventy inch TV sits on, so I can say, "Ziggy, turn on the living room" and that includes the fireplace lights.Yeah. I like 'em but they do have their limitations too. AI isn't as smart as we hoped.

Finally! A smart home speaker that works!
After visiting my brother-in-law's house multiple times and seeing how nicely Echo devices have integrated into his smart home, I was quite impressed. I had purchased a mix of Google Nest Minis and Google Hubs back in 2019. Google removed certain functionality starting in 2022 that was a key feature in playing music over multiple speakers. I had invested a good chunk of money in them and was not pleased that they removed functionality that I had paid for and expected to work as purchased. The Echo Dots are a delight, fast to respond and sensible replies, unlike the Google Assistant and far, far better than Siri. It took the purchase of only one Apple Homepod Mini to realize that Siri fails to function as reliably as Alexa does. The sound is pleasant without being too harsh and I love the built-in clock.Amazon has done a fine job on the Echo Dot, I would recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable, easy-to-configure IoT device to control their smart home. It works well with my Philips Hue bulbs and bridge, delivers quick responses and Alexa is miles ahead of Siri and Google Assistant. The price point is also very pleasant and delivers much more than its competitors. The support is also thorough and responsive, unlike that which I've experienced with Google.

Perfect for my nightstand.
I love my little echo dot! I don’t use it for anything crazy just music and noise at night. It does a decent job when I make requests; I haven’t run into any issues so far.She lights up for notifications, I have a bedtime routine set up, I love that I can drop in on my echo dots & echo show in the other rooms. She pairs well with my Bluetooth items, and sound is loud enough without being obnoxiously loud.Satisfied with my purchase 100%.I was incredibly annoyed to discover that the protection plan I purchased was never sent out to me or processed by the third party vendor so currently, I have no protection for it. Amazon customer services was great working with me to refund me for the money spent on the plan. God willing, it will continue to work as it should.
