A fun spin on Devilman
Ok,so I honestly wasn't sure what I was getting to pre-ordering this. I opened the first pages and was left skeptical and even detestable of this(took a deep breath, wtf? I need a moment to process then give it a chance)... I gave it a chance and found it very enjoyable despite it being different than the original. I was thinking "hey it'll probably be an updated art style of Devilman, why not". But that's not exactly what it was, but the art is nice and similar to the original's. Yeah it's different than the original, but pretty fun altogether and I got what I wanted. I wasn't a fan of the shounen like attacks of , saying the attack names... Didn't feel fitting for Devilman to me. That's my only complaint. I recommend it for those looking for a fun spin on the series, don't go in expecting it to be an exact copy of the original. The gore and violence is still there along with the nudity as well!

I enjoyed the new plot lines and can't wait to see ...
As a fan of the original Devilman manga and anime, I was pleasantly surprised by this. It deviates significantly from the original stories, so do not expect a straight retelling. As a fan, I enjoyed the new plot lines and can't wait to see where this is going. Art style is fun, somewhat cartoony but competent - done by a different artist so don't expect it to look too much like classic Go Nagai. The story is a little manic though - sometimes it is hyper violent ans sometimes it is really kitschy cartoony. Like if Frank Miller's the Dark Knight Returns existed in the same universe as Adam West's Batman. If that doesn'y sound like it's for you, then pass, but if you like a little crazy give this a shot.

A great addition to any Devilman fan's library if you go ...
A great addition to any Devilman fan's library if you go in know its not going to be exactly the same. The art style has a feel similar to Go Nagai's orignal manga, but is much much easier on the eyes and has much nicer faces and character looks. Cant wait to get my hands on the other volumes. Please note if you want a manga that tells the tale of the original manga, you should get the original manga. Ryo is not in this series at all, thus there is no "big twist" at the end of it. If you like Devilman for Ryo and his relationship with Akira, look elsewhere. This one is going more along the lines of the the 1970s anime, which is Amon/Akira and Miki.

The great and powerful devilman
Being a "devil man" myself, I had forgotten while starting this book that it is A SPIN OFF. Which is funny since "Devilman" is a spin off of "Demon Lord Dante". The story is whole heartedly a Go Naga work with everything you'd expect to get in a Go Naga manga. From old enemies to familiar characters. I wish he had drawn the manga too, and I know that he is getting older and an epic task like this is asking a lot.The artist Rui Takato does a good job recreating the feel of Go Naga's style, but there are times when that style slips and you get glimpses of the artist personal style in some of the characters and scenes. It's at that point, I'd wish that the artist just did his own style throughout the piece. It will still work just like the manga "Amon: Appocolice of Devilman". Now if this was a true Go Naga style of art, you would expect to see at least of Go nagai characters in the background panels or extras in a crowds. But I look forward to the next value, and hopefully the appearance Devilman's greatest friend and foe, Ryu Asuka.

Devilman G
Great read. Glad to finally have a manga of Devilman. Also, Jun from Devilman Lady appears in here (didn’t see that coming).I give this manga a four-star because the elements in this version seem different to the original Devilman manga, but I do like that Go Nagai is involved in this and that the art style is similar to his own.

Possession
When the Batmanga came out I did a bit of nosing around about Go Nagai and learned about Devilman. It sounded intriguing but slightly concerning - the plots sounded very violent and the overall tale quite nihilistic. So I did have some sense of what I was walking into. This is a second version of Devilman, not the original which is coming out next year and I'm not sure how different it is. The art is intriguing because it feels very cartoony despite portraying some very strong violence and a certain amount of nudity. The story is about a girl who thinks she's a witch and her male friend who is possessed by a demon called Amon when a group of demons attack them. The demons are part of a larger group seeking to take over the Earth. Akira, the boy possessed by Amon, is timid and quiet until the possession, after which he becomes far more macho and transforms into Devilman. Sometimes it feels a bit sleazy, there is a great focus on female nudity, but a horror story about demons was never going to be very cleancut. The violence is similar to Parasyte with lots of slicing and transforming bodies. The story is intriguing and the art is very good. I'm in for the full ride, I think!
