Tune a Day for Trumpet or Cornet: Book 1

Super helpful!
This has made learning trumpet ab initio (and so far without a teacher) so so much fun. On my second day (yesterday) I was actually playing the national anthem! (Yes really, my boyfriend recognised it to be the national anthem!) It has a lot of melodies on every page, even starting when you can still only play three notes. This book is also good if it's your first instrument as it teaches you the basics of music theory (what is a crotchet all the way up to difficult time signatures - useful for if you want to play jazz eventually and have never read music before). It has little music theory homework exercises for you to do, like writing out melodies in different rhythms. It also has advice on how to keep your trumpet clean and so on. Also I should mention that this book gives you the same melodies weeks later but in harder key signatures - it's really fun and also useful as you know what it should sound like. Interestingly (and this isn't a criticism) there are a large number of Christmas carols in this book. I guess that's because carols are usually simple rhythms with a small range. After two days, I can now play no less than 5 Christmas carols... in April... my poor neighbours. ...I also highly recommend this chap on youtube who gives good advice about how to get a good embouchure [...] as I really struggled to get the different notes that had the same fingering at first (well, I still am but he helped a lot). Right, here goes for day three!

Highly recommend, an excellent book indeed.
Having learnt to play using this very book when I was a child, it has been delightful to remind myself just how wonderful the F and G march really is. The composer of this music should be regarded in the same echelons as Mozart. My daughter is thoroughly enjoying learning to play and this timeless classic is probably the best book out there to assist them with their early studies. I highly recommend.

Old fashioned
Very old fashioned book. I'm a musician trying to learn playing the trumpet, so I'll keep it and try to play some tunes but I wouldn't reach it to a child, it's a boring book. I would like to see a fingering chart as well, but there isn't.

I like the 'old-school' feel of it
I bought this book as a Christmas gift for my brother, who I knew was getting a trumpet too. I like the 'old-school' feel of it, and remember having a similar book for piano as a child so I knew it would be good for a beginner. It has a nice shiny colourful cover and feels like nice quality material.

Upon looking at this book it appears to contain some printing errors where the text on the pages is covered with an image. You can guess what it missing but still not as a published book should appear.

As standard as the Arban.
A bit dated but worked for fifty years ago and will work for any youngster now, including my own daughter.
