the sound on both dvd's is very crackly and almost unable to be listened to in the english version

Gaslight - UK 1940 or US 1944 - which is the best?
Good cinema adaptations of the Patrick Hamilton stage play. Being together in this edition makes for easy comparison, and for me the original 1940 version is the better, although not by much.
