Complete beginner and the difference is unbelievable!
Ok, so I've just purchased, or at least hired, a Trevor James Classic II Horn which came with the standard Trevor James mouthpiece. It arrived on Friday and I began trying to play pretty much immediately (it is my nice new shiny toy after all). It seemed to go ok and I was quite happy; I was making sounds that sounded something like what a saxophone should make so happy days. There were quite a lot of duff notes though, especially when changing notes at the lower end of the scale and the same when using the octave key. This though I put down to me being a complete beginner as this sort of thing is going to happen when you first start learning to play the sax - it just goes with the territory. I then watched a video on youtube that said it's worthwhile to upgrade your stock mouthpiece to a Yamaha 4C as stock mouthpieces can be very unreliable. I looked on amazon, saw they were only £28 so I thought I'd give it a go. It arrived this afternoon and so what I decided to was try playing with the stock mouthpiece first. As per my last practices, it sounded ok but there were a lot of duff notes again. I then changed over to the Yamaha using the exact same reed and ligature. One word - WOW - I could not believe the difference; the notes were smoother and more even, the tone (even to my completely untrained ear) felt much more rounded and responsive. Granted, there are still a couple of duff notes but maybe only 10% of what there were originally. That is effectively a 90% improvement - the other 10% will be purely my lack of ability at the minute. All in all, for £28 this is a no brainer for anyone buying a sax that doesn't already come with a Yamaha mouthpiece.

Plastic? Cheap? But not a toy by any means.
I agree with the positive reviews, but read them only after getting one.My route was lending a dusty old King 613 to a friend. Before handing it over, I was looking for a mouthpiece for it, as I assumed the old, crap-looking, nearly bitten through wreck that came with it, and that I had never tried, would be rubbish. Stuck a Rico Royal 2.5 on it and good grief... It is very unfinicky, allows wide dynamics and you can get a very reasonable sound out of the thing almost instantly.I got one for myself immediately. This one behaves exactly the same. This is a ridiculously tiny amount of money for something that actually works a treat and holds up well against the big names.

Great product.
Having not played the sax for twenty plus years I decided to once again pick up the horn, purely as an amateur. I know the choosing of a mouthpiece can be a bit of a minefield, so I decided to start from the bottom and work my way up. Yamaha has always had a good reputation when it comes to saxophones and for the price I thought their mouthpieces were well worth a try. I was not disappointed. Easy blowing and with a good sound I would highly recommend the Yamaha 4c mouthpiece for anyone wishing to start playing the sax before moving up and choosing a more "pro" mouthpiece.

Better than the average
Instantly noticed it's better than the mouthpiece that came with the saxophone

This may be what helps improve your instrument or your pkaying. But not mine.
My son is a principal trombonist in a brass band and when I informed him that I had ordered a saxophone his first advice was to buy a quality mouthpiece. The mouthpiece and reed have , I am told, a huge influence on the quality of sound produced and the playability of the instrument. This one has excellent reviews from many sources so it was ordered. Delivery was in time and the item well packaged. It fits well into my saxophone and appears well made. Unfortunately it has not helped my playing. I still sound like a flock of migrating geese passing overhead. The fault is mine, not the mouthpiece.

Perfect for beginners
Just replaced my stock mouthpiece with this one, and the difference is night and day. Not too expensive, yet much easier to intonate with this than a stock mouthpiece comes with a sax

Buy one!
I've been struggling with my new alto sax for a few weeks now. Despite being spurred on by such comments from my dear Wife as "That noise sounds just like the end of the Muppet Show theme" and "oh, you're clearly improving - you sound like a police car now", I still harboured dreams of being Clarence Clemons or Candy Dulfer. My main problem was getting a note out of the thing. I'd been onto YouTube and signed up for several Sax School websites, but they made it look so easy. All I got was a foghorn sound and then I'd collapse on the floor gasping for breath.I then read some reviews on here about the Yamaha 4C mouthpiece. Surely this could not make as big a difference as the reviews claimed? Well, I can vouch for the fact that it does! Ok, I still have a long way to go before I'll be able to play Baker Street, but boy, does this mouthpiece make a difference. It is so much easier to make notes (and a nice noise!). I can heartily recommend this. If you're a newbie player, this will be the best £25 you'll spend.

Only been playing a week and even I can tell the difference!
I bought a used Jupiter 500 sax less than a week ago and ordered one of these straight away as I did some research and read that if you can't afford a yamaha sax (which I definitely couldn't), then a yamaha mouth piece was a must. I was a little concerned as it was so dear for something that seemed very minor (being a total beginner I know no different) but can I say I noticed the difference IMMEDIATELY! Even to my untrained ear.Playing for less than a week I'm still learning the very basic breathing and tonguing techniques and was squeaking all over the place on the last mouth piece, which I just put down to needing lots of extra practice, but this has lessened by about 80% with this mouth piece. I don't know how or why - it looks identical to my original mouth piece, but this will literally speak for itself.Well worth the money and was much more expensive in my local music shop (30 pound plus).Bought from Normans seller - excellent. Received email feedback letting me know when ready for and was dispatched. Arrived about 3-4 days after placed the order. Great seller and product, over the moon with my purchase and encouraged to get even better now :o)
