It really works, I've bought three, for all my family!
After reading lots of reviews I decided to buy one of these for my daughter who had just started university and was having real problems sleeping due to the noisy nature of her halls of residence. Having to get up for 9AM lectures when the revellers are still partying at 4AM was not much fun and I was concerned she would get run down and ill! She got the dohm, and it was fantastic. It does sound a bit like a fan, and has a soothing effect as it nullifies background noise. I was having difficulty sleeping as my husband can be a bit snorey and I'm a light sleeper and it was starting to drive me mad. My daughter kept saying get a dohm mum, but I felt it was a bit of an extravagance, but when it got to the point I was heading for the spare room after an hour or two of getting wound up by the noise, I thought I'd get one. We have both slept so much better with the dohm, probably a marriage saver! And to add to my recommendation, I have bought another one for my eldest daughter who is in her final year at university, sharing a house with five others, who are all on different body clocks, she says with the curtains drawn and the dohm on she can sleep through whatever noise is going on in the house. So this review may sound too good to be true, but it is completely genuine, and I have been recommending the dohm to friends and family, and in fact recommended it to a young girl I met at a drinks party the other night, who's recently moved into a noisy London flat. So perhaps it doesn't work for everyone, amongst the dozens of reviews I read there were a few who weren't happy, but I have to say it has been positively life changing for my family. We all function better with a good nights sleep and its definitely really helped all of us.

Makes my Tinnitus inaudible
A difficult thing to review really. I bought this because I have Tinnitus. I had been using various sounds from videos off Youtube, like a sound of a stream or air conditioner, converted to an mp3 then played through my media player, but was looking for something a bit more portable. At the moment I use my laptop with a seperate speaker plugged in, a pain to lug upstairs when I go to bed, or to stick in a corner when I want to watch TV.The sound it creates makes my Tinnitus inaudible, which is good, and, for me, anyway, it is probably the perfect level of noise; any lower and I could hear my T, any louder and it would be intrusive. There are lots of video's on Youtube with people reviewing this item, which can give you an idea of how it sounds. In regards to people saying there isn't much difference between the sound options, I disagree. There isn't a massive difference, but a significant enough difference. In my quietest room, the bedroom, I need the machine on full volume, whereas in the living room, I can have it lower. I assume as my living room is at the front of house.I don't think the price is too bad either. To find a machine that makes a noise that isn't too low or loud is tough, and any extra money spent here is better than spending who knows how long trying to find a suitable Tinnitus masker, in my opinion. So, a tough thing to review. I am giving it five stars as it does the job I wanted. I also like how the manual reassures you it can be left on all night as it isn't costly to run. For any Tinnitus sufferers I would give it a try, you can always return it for free, as it is with Amazon, although there may be return costs, sometimes Amazon say they will reimburse you x amount, sometimes it really is free.

Drown out noisy neighbours
This a solid, high quality white noise device which is compact and easy to use.Was drawn to this device because instead of being an electronic looped fan sound it is actually a fan producing the perfect white noise. Needed this as my neighbour has a cinema speaker system on his TV and can hear it through the walls, though not loud but was very distracting when trying to watch my TV. This has worked very effectively by drowning the unwanted sounds out and replacing them with white noise which isn't distracting. The device is easily adjusted by turning the top to decrease or increase the intensity of the fan sound and works very effectively. There are two fan speed settings though there is very little difference between them. There is no or very little air flow emitted from the device so won't cause any unwanted air flow.Dropped one star for two reasons, firstly it's quite expensive for a small fan in a box (cheaper than soundproofing the walls though which was something I looked into) and mainly because I ordered a black one to be less obtrusive visually (on dark furniture) but it came with a white cable which might sound picky but I found it annoying.Well made and does the job so would recommend.

We couldn't live without this
Our neighbour has 'issues' and periodically has a huge blow-out and turns his huge stereo up very loud with a strong bass sound. The music is unlike any I have heard before - it is like an irregular deep throbbing heart beat and actually makes me feel physically sick. We have had expensive sound-proofing put in and that has cut out everything but the horrible throb which vibrates the floors and all the internal walls and even my pillow. I bought this little machine out of desperation so that we could have a conversation in the evening. Before we had this we had to wear sound-proofing headphones to give our nerves a break. Now when our neighbour is having a melt-down and plays his music until five in the morning we put this on. It doesn't cancel the noise but after it is on somehow your brain can zone out. I have bought two. On very bad nights I put them on two sides of the room, or we can have them on in two different rooms. The sound it makes it nicely 'analogue' unlike the pink or white noise cds I have tried. When I switch it on I instantly feel protected and pacified :) One day I hope noise pollution by neighbours is taken more seriously by the law but until it is these little machines are heaven. Thank you, thank you and thank you again to the inventor, manufacturer and importer!

It nit loud enohh to make a difference there are much more alternative methods of distracting annoying nose at a fraction of the
It came well boxed the manual simple and short and the finish pleasant. I am morbid obese and have a. machine at night that helps with sleep aponia and because I am diabetic and on huge amount of morphine 300 my a day that interfere with my sleep. 30 years on strong sleeping tablets too and I find it impossible to get and stay asleepI started using a electric fan and recently a 1,000 watt air con it keeps me nice and cool as I over heat on operate medications and sweat and dripping wet all the timeI found the noise my air con makes it a bit like a jumbo jet on a run way blocks out all those nasty irritating domestic noises that make sleeping a pain. The noise hides the sound of loud motor bikes whizzing by my house which is on a main road. My neighbours are very noisy slamming there car doors on there range rovers bmw and other cars. They like to shout to each other and have children that love making constant noise. Church goers knocking on the front door and neighbour hood officers disturbing you for information about the community. I found having a loud sounding fan or air con a blessing. It distracts every day noises allowing you to relaxer to a wonderful blowing rumbling sound from them./ all these disturbances just seem to disappear and vanish in to the back ground and these real sounds just become noises that are unidentifiable. Now this dohl white noise sleep machine has a finish fan built in and a on and off switch. On the more up market machine there is a choice of a low or high fan souls level output to be honest the loud setting is about as loud as the smallest fan you can buy from Argos that is so quite I can still hear every day noises very easily. It is a expensive machine would be cheaper instead of paying £60 to but a £15 fan which does the same job and is 3 times cheaper. I think this machine is fantastic for those people who like to moan and complain about everything there is to complain about My rip off 240 volt version designed for the UK was a cheap and useless purchase. I sent it back for a refund the next day. The fan so quite as I said a small fan from a electrical warehouse sound wise compares well in a comparison. Don't waste your money send it back and buy a normal fan and also enjoy a beautiful gentle breeze of wind and a may be the isolating effects. To let you in to a secret there are many fantastic very cheap applications you can down load for a pound that gives you relaxing tribal and animal sounds from around the world that play all night running while your i phone is left on charge.with a fan it might only last a few years like this white noise sleep machine last of all I find the I phone applications of thunder sndightnjng rain forest and animals in Africa so much more relaxing and can be played though your portable blue tooth speaker that runs off the mains. It is all built in to a compact I phone that you can take anywhere in the world without worrying about if it is ac or dc poweredI think the seller and manufacture will pinch me if they knew my name and address
