Sharpham Park Organic Pearled Spelt 500 g (Pack of 3)

Wow! I just made spelt risotto for the first time. Delicious! So much better than rice. It retains a chewier texture, and has more flavour and protein. I did find it's not completely pearled - still has some bran attached. I'm fine with that. Using the Subscribe and Save option, I consider this a good value product.

This is the first time for me using spelt, it's a fantastic alternative to rice and pasta,after checking health shops and supermarkets without success I was glad to be able to purchase on Amazon. I just can't see myself going back to rice or pasta. Spelt risotto is fantastic, I am checking other recipes on line to have a variety .

Pros: This spelt is very tasty, once cooked the grains are soft but still quite springy in consistency, a bit like pearled barley.Cons: It still contains bits of grain and seed husk which you have to pick out when you are eating it. It creates a lot of scum in the pot and when it's been cooking for a while, a starchy film can form on top of the water. It's not quite the Germanic 'Dinkel-Reis' I was looking for - when I bought this in Austria it produced hardly any scum, had no bits of husk and was less chewy in texture. It's good in its own way though.

Probably the best spelt in the world.

Ordered during Covid19 lockdown when there was little to be had in the food shops and they were risky to visit. I was very pleased to receive this within 24 hours of ordering for a fair price. Makes lovely tasty risotto.

Bought alongside their Spelt Porridge. We add 1/3rd of this to 2/3 measure porridge. Add milk & water in jug and overnight in fridge.This softens all the product and makes excellent porridge.An ancient grain pre-dating commercial wheats - this is what our bodies were intended to eat.Also makes a good Spelt RisottoEat 2x per week and prevent bowel cancer.

Great product for all recipes requiring spelt, and an excellent alternative to rice in risottos.

I had high hopes for this product - it seemed to fit the bill, packaged well, a good size, a couple of clear and easy recipes on the back to get you going, and a range of spelt products available from the company to try.So it took a lot to tip me all the way to a one star review!The spelt itself is great, I have no digestion issues after eating and it is remarkably similar to risotto so very easy to adapt recipes to. It comes down to Sharpham's complete lack of quality control - the spelt is littered with inedible husks and seeds which are a nightmare to eat, the seeds are so small that even a single serving takes a minimum of 10 minutes to sift through and pick out the inedible seeds and husks. Despite having done this, there always seems to be one which slips through! This is not a particularly cheap product and to have such poor quality control for something which you have paid so much for is appalling. I will contact Amazon and see if they are willing to refund as I am really unhappy with my purchase.
