Rainbow Crocheted Blankets: A block-by-block guide to creating colourful afghans and throws

Only flicked through this book but I'm really excited to start a project!! Instructions are clear and easy to follow, there's a straightforward layout on how to join all the parts of the blanket together and most, if not all, the patterns have colour variation diagrams so it helps to choose what colour palette you want.Only thing I'm not entirely clear on is how much yarn to use for each one. There's a list in beginning and with each pattern for recommended dyers and spinners (UK and worldwide) but if you use something else I'm not sure the weights for each colour in grams for each pattern will be accurate. Personally I've always preferred patterns to put how many skeins I'll need.Most of the patterns use a 3.5-4mm hook so if you don't like crocheting with finer yarn then this may not be for you. I mostly prefer aran yarn or thicker but I do sometimes like to work with something different and I'm really looking forward to trying these patterns.The book has UK stitch names but there is a list of the US terms as well if you need them. It also has the diagrams and the colour coding for them is explained at the start of the book so it is worth reading the 1st few pages.Overall, the book is really well laid out and there are amazing, clear instructions from crocheting the motifs to putting the blanket together. Definitely worth getting regardless of whether you are a beginner or a more experienced crocheter (I've been crocheting less than 2yrs) I can't recommend this book enough!

Hooray for Amanda Perkins! At long last a superb crochet book whose straightforward patterns I can follow easily! Although I know how to crochet I find great difficulty following patterns but, using this book, I made three blocks in one afternoon, including the triangle in a square, with no problem at all. What a relief to find crochet patterns that use obvious gaps to work into instead of the tops of stitches of the previous round which I find almost impossible to do. No other crochet book even comes close to this wonderful book full of colour and inspiration. Different colourways for the blankets are shown, too, as are charts for how to put the blocks together. There are no instructions for the actual stitches but that isn't what this book is about and there are many inexpensive books that give excellent instructions and diagrams for that. Mostly, the stitches used are double-crochet, half-trebles and trebles which are very simple to learn. Even if you don't crochet at all, this book is well worth buying just for the photos of the beautiful crochet blankets and throws in various locations. (Mind you, by the time you're half-way through this book I'd be very surprised if you weren't itching to learn how to crochet!) Also in the book are lots of tips and a list of suppliers for the yarns used. In my opinion, this is the best book on crochet by a long, long way. Do buy it, it's great value and I guarantee you won't be disappointed. Thank you so much, Amanda, for writing this brilliant book!

Brilliant book! I am a near beginner and this uses basic stitches, nothing fancy but produces fancy results. The secret to the amazing outcome is the lovely colours. All of the projects will take time and patience as is the nature of crocheting a large piece but this book is so easy to understand and follow...like I said don't think about buying it...just do it you wont be disappointed...also to add that although there are recommendations for wool, any 4 ply will work, its the colours that are important in my opinion, have added a picture of the start of one of the blankets. Also to add if you dont know how to do the four basic stitches, you wont find instructions here...but a quick google and an afternoon learning and you will be well on your way

Great designs and colour suggestions. The photos don't always match the designs so by reading the pattern carefully and using the pattern and photo as a guide not step by step instructions I have made a lovely blanket and have started on a second.

I bought this incredible book for my grand daughter, as she wants to learn to crochet. I t certainly inspires me and the pictures are amazing!

As a newbie at crochet, I was unsure how to go about using colour to design a throw. Encouraged by her use of wonderful colours and her advice to have fun and enjoy, I have adapted her designs and although what I am working on will take me over a year, that’s just fine, there’s no rush.

This is a beautiful book. Packed with colour and gorgeous inspiration.Each of the 10 blankets has written and charted instructions for the simple motifs which build up into the overall design. There are a variety of suggested yarns for each blanket along with a beautiful visual colour palette. Not only are the colours used for the photographed blanket listed, but there are also several colour variations suggested for each, really showing the variety of blankets that can be achieved.The photography is stunning and hugely inspirational. There are plenty of very handy tips and suggestions on techniques and materials which should be useful to new and experienced crocheters alike.This edition (9781782211570) is written in UK terms but there are conversion charts for stitch terms, hook sizes and yarn weights.I can’t wait to start gathering my rainbow and making my own rainbow blanket!

Bought it used and is in perfect shape. Easy to follow patterns with layout diagrams for finishing. Options are given as to types of yarn suitable for each project.
