Nice little whistle
It is very robust even though it is featherlight. It is a pealess whistle so don't expect a referee style blast from it, but if you give some confident blasts, it is clean and loud. It still sounds a little bit nasally though. My dog doesn't seem to be able to localise where the whistle is and runs in every direction looking for me so it is better to give a series of five blasts like with gun dogs to give the dog a chance to run in the right direction. It is overall a good whistle though to be recommended.

Whistling up a storm???
For much of my 20 years of married life, there has only been one love - my English Pointer. He's everything a man needs, but seldom gets with a wife...Appreciative; comes complete with a fur coat; sits in the car and doesn't talk; is non-judgemental; doesn't need reassurance about weight / looks / what to wear / breath ; isn't too fussy about what we're eating, and always ready for some 'exercise'.Unfortunately, he's now getting on a bit, and the realisation that there's an imminent chance he'll depart this mortal coil and I'll be left with just the wife to talk to has been causing some distress.Luckily, in a flash of brilliance I remembered how I trained my pal in the first place, so this review is for the brand new Acme whistle that I bought for what people call my wife, but friends and I know as 'The Devil's Disciple' (TDD).Now, I've been accused in the past of insensitivity. I took this on board when I chose what whistle tone to get for TDD and went for 210.5 - the highest pitch you can get in the range, and a sound many humans cannot hear. This meant I'd be able to train 'the mad-woman' to respond in public, without disturbing most of the peasantry. It's worked a dream. She's already learnt that 1 toot means bring me a G&T; 2 is a 30 minute warning I'll be requiring food; 3 toots has been recognised that I'll be requiring the car to be outside the door of the pub as soon as I've finished my pint (she can hear the high pitch whilst waiting in the car park with the windows closed) and I'm working on 4 toots to be recognised as a variation on what in dog training terms would be known as 'down'.A most satisfactory purchase, for use in training of all sorts of animals.Thank you Acme!!P.S. There is an old adage that you cannot teach an old dog new tricks. Acme proves that isn't necessarily true, but my Father-in-Law has said that whilst my Acme whistle is doing well with his daughter, in his experience an electric cattle prod works best with older cows...

Great dog whistle
Great whistle. We were finding if our 11mth old border collie found something more interesting then us, his ears turned off. Really embarrassing calling his name and being ignored! This whistle attracts his attention immediately, and he comes straight back and is rewarded. Some say this is not loud. .. no perhaps not to the human ear (which is good as don't wish to annoy everyone,as well as seperates it from a call for help say) but the high pitch nature of this whistle we find easily travels 400 yards. As others have mentioned, do need to train your dog to respond to the whistle, and it's good practice to use a pattern .

It’s a good tone,
It’s a good tone, but for some reason sounds different to my other 210s ? But my dog responds to it. When she’s not over excited and playing.

Cheap, rugged and effective
Try breaking one of these in normal use - I dare you! Mine has been sat on, dropped, soaked, carried between teeth (dog's, not mine) and still looks like new - and works! My Working Cocker Spaniel responded to this instantly, and she was only a few months old. I don't work her and she only really gets basic training, but for a recall over big distances and in dense woods, this whistle is great.I've found that quite a few other dogs pay attention when I use it, and even though they haven't been trained to it, they often sit in front of me or stand there waiting.Best dog accessory ever!

Nice, cheap, optional, maybe useful if your voice doesn't carry
I'd write a longer review if I hadn't lost this after two days. I'll just say that it's not a magic wand - merely blowing it will not make your dog return unless you have trained the dog to return when it hears it. I long to tell that to the twits who stand in our local park blowing these things till they are blue in the face and wondering why they don't work. And since I have lost this whistle I might also observe that it is not always a good idea to rely on an artificial aid as the only means to summon your dog. Try calling - it's a lot harder to lose your voice than your whistle. or rattling a treat box - that always brings my older dog running. Doesn't work for the younger one though - she's not a piglet like him.

Fantastic
I have never had any experience with recalling a dog by using a whistle. I have two dogs, a four year old and a five month old chocolate labs. Both have never had the experience of being recalled by a whistle. I was advised by numerous sites that when you first use the whistle you must arm yourself with treats; that I can see really does help! The first time I tried it both dogs looked up with interest, the eldest didn't come to me but the youngest ran full pelt. I gave him a treat and then the eldest decided to join us. To cut a long story short after a few days of trying this I have got both dogs to recall with the whistle. My youngest is always first to respond. I tend to find they work better if I do short peeps as apposed to a long whistle.I am thrilled with this whistle and will definetly use it in the future. I would advise you to get a lanyard though, as I could see this item being easily lost otherwise.
