Kane and Abel
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I was curious to read one of his books as he was so popular, I know why now, a real page turner, brilliant story teller, can't wait to read the second book in the series.

Great, down to earth and a true to life read of human frailty and ambition
Whilst based on life in the capitol and it's inherent lifestyleSitting somewhat at odds with my northern heritage, this book studies life in London and the eastern block and two contrasting lives of different poles,( excuse the pun)Greed and ambition and misunderstanding being all to evident .What a sad end to two ambitious men set apart by class and pride.A great read which left me thinking about what could have been in many of our lives.Come on Jeffrey, write something about us Northerners if only because we all have a history. Many thanks,Chris.

Good book but Archer's style takes some getting used to
I very much enjoyed this tale of coincidence and rivalry between two men born on the same day into very different lifestyles. Jeffrey Archer paints the characters well through their actions and behaviour and the story of the two men's lives from childhood to death is very compelling.I would describe it as a family saga, if I had to put it in a category. It has all the elements of that type of book. Feuds, successes, failures and misunderstandings abound as the two men go through their lives. In fact, it bears a resemblance to the Forsythe Saga in some ways.I did find Archer's style difficult to warm to, however. He writes in a very matter of fact way. He uses virtually no description, no similes, no metaphors or any language of that type, which at times can make the story a little dry. He also writes dialogue in a way that jars a little. He rarely interrupts a character's speech to explain anyone's reaction to what they are saying or to explain what that character, or any other character, is doing while someone is talking. It makes the dialogue seem rather unrealistic. For example, one character might reveal something shocking but the reaction of the person they are speaking to isn't explained until the end of the speech, so it appears for a while that there's no reaction from anyone at all; an odd way of writing. My only other criticism is the ending. The reactions of the minor characters at the end of the book were inexplicable to me. Considering the events that had taken place, they seemed to take an "Oh well, moving on" attitude, when it seemed to me that anger, distress or some kind of strong emotion would have been more likely.Despite this, I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a page-turner. There aren't many books around like this one. It's definitely worth a read.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Kindle edition: no formatting problems or errors

Great Story!
I loved the way the story built up between the Kane and Abel's life from birth, and all the challenges they faced. it was a real page turner. The ended wasn't what I expected either.

BEST BOOK EVER
In my viewpoint, Kane and Abel is a literary masterwork that merits inclusion in the top echelons of literature. The characters in this book are so vividly described that it's impossible not to care about what happens to them. The reader is immersed in a world of wealth, power, and intrigue from the first page. The way that Kane and Abel examines the concepts of fate and free will is one of the things that makes it so captivating. The two characters are both motivated by a strong ambition for success and a determination to get through the challenges in their path, despite having quite different upbringings. Yet, despite their enormous accomplishments, they ultimately fail to escape the factors that affect how they live. The fact that Kane and Abel combines historical facts with the character's personal narratives is another element that makes it unique. The novel gives a vivid and compelling portrait of the times in which the characters live, from the advent of the banking industry in the early 20th century to the horrors of World War II.Overall, I heartily recomend Kane and Abel to anyone who enjoys a well-told good narrative. It's a novel that deserves to be included in the top ten of all time thanks to its fascinating characters, beautifully described setting, and everlasting ideas.
