Bite Me! (You Know I Like It): Spooky Boys, Book 1

A Bit Trope-y but A Solid Story
I just want to preface this by saying I read a lot of fanfiction, I have no shame about it. There are book series out there that I absolutely love and I want more once they're over so I head off to find well-written stories from other authors about my favorite characters. Who wouldn't want that? To keep it short, I've read all the tropes. Aaaaaaaaaall the tropes. This does have some of my favorites: slow burn (slowwwwwwwww burn), enemies to lovers (in a misunderstanding enemies kind of way, my fave), hot vampire/tiny boyfriend (c'mon...c'mon, it's glorious), mysterious pasts: the book has a bunch.I want to get into the things I didn't like so much first though. I saw a few other reviews mentioning the length and I do have to agree, this is a bit longer than it needed to be. I felt like Blair spent a lot of his inner-monologue repeating something he told me 3 chapters ago. I'll take anything I can get from Richard because please...it's Richard. There are a lot of chapters and some of them did drag (I didn't realize until another review mentioned it but yes the first spicy scene is pages and pages long). I think a solid 50-100 pages could have been chopped off of this and we wouldn't have missed anything.Something else I didn't like which is why I hesitated in buying the book in the first place was the sexual specific pining (the word twitch was used frequently and y'all know how it was used). Once the spice got going however, it was gooooood stuff. Also they were both virgins? Ehh. I could see it for Blair, sure with my little shy sheltered boy, but the century old vampire? Ehh. Especially since Mr. Sex on a Stick ended up being exactly that...in bed.The side characters (other than Collin, really) aren't super developed. The only thing I can remember about Chastity was her ever-changing hair colors. Her sister had RBF. Solid people but not super developed. This isn't entirely a con from my POV though since I personally do not care about them, I was there for Richard/Blair.Richair? Blairchard? The development of their relationship is really sweet. The way Richard cares and shows that he cares, I enjoyed it from Blair's very first gay panic. They way he calls Blair "baby" made me squeal, oh it was so cute. The movie date, adorable. The forcibly taking him to the mall to go shopping then realizing later that he was being a POS to a guy he liked because he liked him? We like a man that takes accountability for his actions.I'm giving this 5 stars. It's a solid 4+ for me. Is it the best book I've ever read? No. Would I read it again? Yes. Am I preordering the sequel? Yes, if I can. If you've read books like All for the Game by Nora Sakavic or Go Ask Alice or 13 Reasons Why or anything by Ellen Hopkins, you will like this book.I'm so happy I found you on TikTok!

Hauntingly beautiful
First of all, I need to state that Fae Quin is an artist, first and foremost. An amazing artist! Her work is next level stunning and I say this so that you'll understand when I describe her debut novel - Bite Me! While on the surface it appears to be a paranormal romance, featuring an adorable, if a little bit broken human, Blair and Richard, a blond Adonis vampire, who falls head over heels for the emo looking young man. That is where any comparisons end. What Fae Quin does is weave a masterful tale of terrible abuse and found family, and she does so with all the incredible detail of one of her artistic works. Her words are like poetry and they reveal so much more than mere words should be capable of. You don't just "see" the landscape and people - you feel the emotion and the living spirit seep off the pages - and this is a very rare skill indeed. Yes, there is a lot of angst and heartache in learning about the life that Blair has suffered through. It's not pretty. It's dark and gritty, and at times brutal, and I would definitely take the trigger warnings seriously here, but beyond that the author weaves a thread of hope. A light at the end of the tunnel, so to speak, and it shows in the way that both Blair and Richard push through the darkness with bravery and a fair amount of sass! Blair is unapologetic in his manner - a feisty little twink trying to figure out who he wants to be and where he fits in the world. Richard struggles with responsibilities that have been thrust upon him, when there is a part of him that just wants to be young and carefree. When the two of them come together it's a push and pull of wanting to resist but helpless to fight their attraction and a less than helpful dose of outside influences. I really don't want to give away too much of the story but it's part mystery, part romance and a lot of positivity regarding communication, learning to accept and love yourself, and learning to trust. There are several extremely important side characters and they are just as much a part of the story as the MC's. I particularly loved Collin - Richard's younger brother. That boy is an absolute hoot! There are revelations at the end that I did not see coming, and it segues perfectly into the beginning of the next book. I'd call this a HFN or a continuing happy, because while this story arc finishes it sets us up for more mystery and drama to come. Honestly, I was completely blown away that this is a debut novel and I can only imagine how much more the author has to share as they grow into their writing craft. I'd give this 20* stars if I could and I am going to be waiting with bated breath for the next book! Please give this book a try! I'm pretty confident you won't be disappointed!

Loved it!!!
Well, my mind is blown. Bite Me! was such a good book!! I loved every second of it and just insert all the fangirl squealing here! I’m at a loss for words right now, but I’ll try to get my review to be something other than “read this right now so we can all scream about it together”. Also, I loved this book so much that I bought both the ebook and the physical book. I just could’t help myself 😊.Blair and Richard are just the sweetest characters ever and they both deserve all the love. I loved that Richard just wanted to take care of others (in his own slightly awkward but sweet way). And that even though Blair had been through so much, he was still willing to believe the best in people. They made my heart hurt in all the good ways. And in all honesty, they made me fall in love with this world more and more with every chapter. The angsty goodness that came with the slow burn of their relationship was amazing. Also, the plot twist(s) that came out of nowhere at the very end??? It had me screaming! I didn’t see it coming and just. Holy crap! It was so good! Bite Me! is getting a solid five stars. It’s perfect for anyone who loves a slow burn, angsty romance with all the supernatural goodness. I really, really need to get my hands on the next book. 🥰

A rollercoaster supernatural romance mystery!
If you love supernatural romances with an air of mystery and angst, not to mention delectable slices of life as you get to know the characters, you must read! I love the mix of heartwarming and heartwrenching. The spooky vibes and the beautiful descriptions. The mood really is set by the creative use of imagery and you feel like you're there with the characters.I love how the supernatural aspects aren't tackily obvious. They're subtle and just a natural part of the story and the characters lives. It's just there and I don't think the words are even said like 'you are this' for a long time. I just liked that change it was refreshing.Richard is such a stalker at the beginning but it's completely obliviously done. Or all in the greater good shall we say.For a big chunk of the story it's a balance of spooky mystery and a relationship of misunderstandings. It's a great mix of realistic lifestyle trauma and emotions with the supernatural. The tension builds and builds slowly until it can't be contained and then it sort of explodes and I loved it so much!!! The way both troubled and secretive guys just sort of unleash it all on each other. When they start to take down some walls between them, their banter is so fun. I loved all the little one-liners between them.I love how the domestic bliss gets sucker-punched by the underlying plot at the most unexpected times as well just. Og my gosh. Cannot recommend enough! It was such a rollercoaster of a tale!

Paranormal MM romance? Yes please!
4.5⭐️This is the second book I've read from Fae Quin, and this book was just as good. I loved the storyline and the MCs, and this book had me at the first twilight reference! It is a slooooww burn romance.Bite Me! Is a standalone slow burn paranormal MM romance with high heat, an HEA, and no cliffhangers. It features a relationship between two adorably prickly men that have everything against them, until they don’t. Together they’re giggly, young, and tooth-achingly sweet. If you like spooky stories with mystery, suspense, hilarious miscommunication, and characters that make you laugh, read on!Please see Fae Quin website for trope list and TW!! ⚠️

Fangtastic Debut
A wonderful debut novel with a lovely style.Blair is a tortured soul on the run. Richard is a tall, not dark but white-haired and handsome vampire on his case - the new boy in town needs to be watched; he may not be safe.I loved Blair's arc, watching him grow in confidence. And his penchant for kitsch, fangy clothing is super cute.Richard is tall and brooding. Until you scratch his surface. There are some really sweet moments. And the x2 steams are a huge payoff for the very slow burn.A whole host of well-rounded characters pepper this gripping story e.g. Chastity, Collin and Boots (a kitty). And the ending is all kinds of dramatic.

love and monsters in plain sight
This has a slow start but a cracking middle full of feelings, characters and action, and intrigue and plot, then slows down again before picking up speed for the ending. Interesting characters and premise fighting to clear the descriptions in places. I ended up caring about the characters and wanted to see them reach happy states.

Couldn’t put it down
This book was wonderful. It’s pretty chunky but kept me hooked the whole way through. The plot is intricate, and well-thought-out, with twists to keep you interested. The central relationship was lovely, combining the dawning realisation of the supernatural elements at work in the town, with soft, lonely boys drawn together. It was a small town mystery and a spicy love story, and I really recommend it.I received a free copy of this book via Indie Author Creative and am voluntarily leaving a review.
