That's the Way it is: Exceptional!!!
Being a new Elvis fan, I have been binging on everything I can find. This concert is no exception. Whether you are a new recruit or a veteran follower of this magnetic guy - you will not be disappointed!! Although the 1968 comeback was awesome, it was incredible seeing Elvis perform with all his band in front of a live audience. Being born a decade too late, I never had the chance to see him live but this definitely makes you feel you are right there. Being 52 years old makes absolutely no difference to this show. Elvis gives you EVERYTHING you could ever need or want. He may inspire contemporary artists, but none of them can hold a match stick to him in terms of vocal range, charisma, performance and diligence. It is so awesome seeing Elvis rehearse with his crew - you receive a deeper understanding of his work ethic and consumate professionalism in conjunction with his outrageous sense of humour. If you want quality entertainment then the only time you will be disappointed is when the closing credits roll. Fortunately the advantage we have over the live audience is the pleasure of watching it all over again. Trust me, you WILL want to. :)

Elvis at his live best
I always associate the white jump suits with Elvis's final declining years and i suppose that's what put me off buying this for so long. Forget decline - i think this must mark his absolute peak as a live performer. The music (and sound quality) is sublime. Elvis oozes charisma as he tackles everything from his 50s hits through to songs like 'Bridge Over Troubled Water'. His voice sounds fantastic. He looks fantastic. His backing band and singers are first rate. Cary Grant attends the after-show party. It's that level of Event.I really enjoyed the way the film took us through the rehearsal process to the shows themselves. In rehearsal everything's that bit more relaxed and playful. It's awe-inspiring to see the ease with which he moves between rhythm & blues, gospel, 60s pop/rock hits, big ballads. We get a real sense of his personality watching him rehearse. We also get to see just how engaged with the music he was and how clear he was about what he wanted it to sound like. The extras consist of a featurette about the making of the 2001 version of the film (which is the version on the blu-ray). This was interesting. There are also a series of outtakes of varying quality: mostly of song performances such as "I Just Can't Help Believin'". I do wish these had been restored in the same way as the main film, especially the audio which is quite rough for some of them (e.g. "Oh Happy Day"). They're still well worth watching though. If you're an Elvis fan or even if you're not but want to know why other are, this is the blu-ray to buy.

Elvis fan
I have been an Elvis fan since my brother took me to see that's the way it is at the cinema back in the 70s can't get enough Elvis my only complaint is that I just can't help believing and a bridge over troubled water has been left off.

That's The Way It Was - Almost!
I just bought this because I only had the original movie on VHS, and was surprised it wasn't on DVD as an entity in it's own right, so I now have TWO copies of the 'Special Edition'. I've always been mystified why someone thought it a great idea to not only omit 'I just can't help believin' ' but the most sublime version of 'Bridge over troubled water' as well! What's THAT about?!! Then again, I was also expecting 'Are you lonesome tonight' as seen in 'Elvis the Concert' to be included in the 'Special Edition' and was somewhat perplexed that not only was it not there, the 'reason' given was something to do with 'copyright'. And here I was thinking EPE owned the copyright to Elvis. I'm old enough - and have been a fan long enough - to remember seeing the original film in the cinema (repeatedly) when it was released. While I can certainly live without the fan interviews and that toe-curlingly embarrassing 'convention' scene, I still don't think the 'Special Edition' to do Elvis' legacy proud has been released yet. 'If I can dream....' maybe one day, it will. However, 'cause I've loved him for 40 years, I still give it 5* for being Elvis.

Amazing! Fantastic!
This was the first Elvis DVD i bought. I have since bought, the 68 comback special and Aloha from Hawaii and well as various movies that he did. The 'Elvis -- That's The Way It Is' DVD is the best one yet! As a hugh Elvis fan i do beleive that this shows elvis in the same light as in 1956. His performances, both vocally and sexually are on an even with performances such as Hound Dog on The ED Sullivan show in 56 and the Jailhouse Rock video of 1957. The best performance is the Suspicous Minds track. Elvis shows a amazing amount of energy, enthusiasum and unbelievable vocals to a massive, screaming live audiance. After listening to recorded tracks on the 30 no1 hits cd, the live versions of such song like in the Ghetto, The wonder of you and suspicous Minds and twice as goo live. He also performs Thats all right Mama, All shook up and Hound Dog, thats all right Mama is equally as good as the original, even though elvis never performed Hound dog, Blue suede shoes etc as well after the 50s.A must have!

Looks fantastic!!
Given that this movie is over 50 years old, I have seen this many many times. But I have never seen. It looks so good. And this is only on DVD not Blu-ray or 4K. It looks awesome.
