A slightly different approach
This book helps the reader to think about their surroundings and what can help them in their photographic situations. It is very readable but that does not dilute the content in any way. It is certainly a text that supports the learner photographer in a very rounded way from the first pages onwards, providing easy to understand explanations of numerous key topics.

Photography de mystified - fantastic starting point if you want to compose great photographs
I chose to buy this book to 'support' Tony and Chelsea's work and the videos they post online. If you're not a follower of Tony and Chelsea on YouTube, they demistify much of photography's mumbo jumbo to allow us all to make advised decisions and get the most out of our digital cameras. The book is a synopsis of Tony and Chelsea's approach and really will help you understand what makes the difference between taking a picture and making a picture. If you want to be a technical numbers guru, and spend weeks and weeks with your nose in a pictures by numbers book while your camera never sees the light of day, this book is not for you. If you take the approach that you can get out there and learn from using your camera with just a little bit of guided thought from the book - you'll love this book.I'll finish this review with a testimony to the materials produced by Tony and Chelsea - both printed and multimedia - and say a huge thank you to them both for removing the smoke and mirrors from the photography world and making it more likely that we will all use our cameras more productively. Thanks guys.

Very Useful
For an amateur photographer looking to take better photographs this is a very useful book. It's well written and brisk, dashing through the various kinds of photography people commonly undertake; landscapes, weddings, portraits, etc, and informative.Possibly some might find it a little too brisk and wish subjects were entered into in a little more depth but then it would be a much, much larger book.As an amateur photographer a large part of reading books like this, for me, is because I have a lot of unknown unknowns. For example balancing a scene based on what's in focus, is the brightest thing etc is not something I have come across before and were it not for these kind of things being covered in books like this I would never have known about it. So even where things are not delved into in great depth in this book I now at least know what to research further in other books.I have only watched a few of the videos referenced in the book but those have been useful and informative.I'd have no hesitation recommending this to anyone in a similar position to myself, that of having had a camera and an interest in photography for years but running up against issues I haven't solved for myself and in need of some further direction. For example, the idea of making a photograph rather than taking a photograph has changed my approach somewhat and led to better photographs. Yes, it's obvious when you think about it but sometimes it just needs someone to point that kind of thing out.

don't worry its just for fun, but at the same time challenges you to ...
I have been taking photos for many years using point and shoot, and bridge cameras, having recently upgraded to my very first DSLR I thought it was worth the time and effort to learn how to control my new camera. So having seen may of Tony's videos on YouTube and the many attached adverts for his book (and having learnt a lot but in a very disjointed way) I decided to take the leap and buy the book. The first thing to say is that I was not at all disapointed with my purchase. I have taken my time and read this book from front to back. The book is well layed out and leads you through the many topicks in a natural and inteligent way. At the end of each chapter there is a quiz, don't worry its just for fun,but at the same time challenges you to put what you have just learned into practice, then after that there are a list of practicle tasks which help you to reinforce what you have learned and take it to the next level, developing your skills as you go.Whilst I know this is only the begining of the journey I have chosen I know that thanks to Tony & Chelsea my Photos will improve through practical knowlege and the use of the lessons learned, and not so much through luck. I would happily recomend that anyone who is starting out, or is looking for help improving their photography, should try this book.

Everything you need to improve your photography
This book is very thorough, covering all the fundamentals and different types of photography, going into great detail without being too complex at the same time. Great choice for beginners to advanced amateurs. There is a great selection of videos in every chapter to compliment and reinforce the text. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone wanting to learn or improve their photography. Extremely good value for money. Thanks Tony and Chelsea.

A Digital Photographers book for a Digital Age
This is a great book and worth every penny.Tony has embraced the digital age and throughout the book there are links to videos where he demonstrates the techniques described within the book. This helps mix up the book from pure reading and as a consequence keeps the reader engaged. At the end of each chapter is the standard recap of all the key elements of the chapter, but to re-enforce the learning there are some online tests that the reader can take. Again mixing up the engagement with the reader. What’s also great about this book is that it’s continually updated and that these updates will not have to cost any more money. I applaud Tony for this. Most other books will have to be re-purchased when new editions are released. Beyond the book itself there are user communities on both facebook and a dedicated forum. Once you have purchased the book, simply provide proof of purchase to Tony and he’ll grant you access to both. You are not only buying a book – you are buying into an active, supportive community. For the £5 this book cost me (kindle edition) it’s outstanding value. It’s well thought out, the content is good and balanced up with mixed media. It’s a true digital photographers book in a digital age.

A great book for any photographer
The media could not be loaded. I've been into photography for more than 5 years during which I've followed many YouTubers and watched many tutorials. I can say this book still taught me useful things and helped me be more creative. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoy photography and has an interest in learning how to be better.
