Volkel 804/026S 3mm x 0.5 HSS Tap (Set of 3)

With some tools the cheep one will preform just as comparable to the mid-range with little differences that mater to a value focused user.... This is not the case with taps, particularly comparing cheap import metric taps from a set large set with these German made works of art.I bought both the M3 0.5 and the M5 0.8 taps, this review applies to both however it is particularly applicable to the M3.Usage notes: Cast Aluminum heat sinks, 6160 Extruded aluminum.Pros: They cut really well and the thread form is good. With a skilled light touch the tap has good feedback when it's grabbed into the work and you should clear the chips. This is likely due to the slightly narrow shake after the threads.The tap set comes in a taper (gun tap), finishing, and bottoming tap however the tapers on the finishing and bottoming taps are still a hair more than you may expect.these taps are best hand driven with a chuck style tap wrenches. I would even consider removing the cross bar handle when starting to ensure good feedback and minimizing over torquing. Again these taps have a bit of feedback that is nice in a hand tap.Cons: I have not snapped one yet, but I have a good feeling it's possible if your not paying attention or if you try and drive these with a machine tool or even a drill. Stick to hand tapping only for best results and a high success rate.I would absolutely buy this brand of taps again for my hand tapping needs.

Nothing to dislike.

VERY good quality but knocked 1 star off because the plastic (3 compartment) case needs felt/sponge inserts to prevent them rattling around and mixing loosely.

High quality set of HSS taps at a good price, have used them on silver steel with no problem, will buy this make again
