Silverline 633936 Dovetail Jig 300 mm Width Capacity

Great bit of kit. The instructions were a bit rubbish but after looking on You tube was easy to fathom for even a thicky like me.

I ordered this without checking reviews (something I usually do), I probably wouldn't have ordered it if I had.It make perfect Dovetails, if your'e prepared to put the effort in.First of all , lets get one thing straight, it's £40, if you want a better made, quality jig then your'e going to have to spend a bit more money.It's got some faults yes, but nothing serious, the knobs were near on solid, I had to undo them with lots of WD40 and a wrench, I was going to send it back due to this but on closer inspection I noticed paint in the threads, similar problem with the bolts, easily fixed with a Tap and Die set, also the long hold down bar is too long(the back one), I ground a couple of mm of each end and reassembled and lubed it up, took me about half an hour.Now it works perfectly, just as good as a Trend jig (around £100) , now I learned something, how to take it apart, service and put it back together, if you want to make Dovetails this way you need to know how the kit works.

Great value for a DIY project

The stop brackets are not level this nothing can be set up correctly. Not very well built. Leaves a lot to bo desired. Will be returning item for refund. Do not buy this item people

Well, I am not a master craftsman and wanted an inexpensive jig more to learn how dovetailing i done, rather than make loads of drawers and boxes, so I plumped for SilverlineLike another reviewer, I found I needed to turn the horizontal clamp the other way around. Strange error, but not insurmountable! On further inspection, I noticed that one prong of the template was not circular, which was annoying, although this was fairly central to the template and probaby wouldn't impact things too much.As I learnt more about the jig, I got on to the fence and realised that the fence and template were not aligning. The template was poorly cast and actually curved, which meant that the template prongs were closer at the tips, that at their base.This was getting serious, but as it was metal, I though I could straighenen it out... one hammer blow and the cast iron template shattered ( hence the gorilla tape!)Thats was enough for me. I bought a replacement aluminium template which I hope does the job. Because I thought I could correct the casting issues and broke it, I cannot really send it back.So ... WARNING ... Check everything first before deciding whether to keep it !

It arrived as described, it is heavier than I had thought. I have seen it on e-bay at a price way above what I paid. Communication with Silverline has been very good. I found the booklet's fine print too small but silverline sent on request a booklet in pdf form so I could print it out in a print size of my choice! I am in the middle of making a coffee table so It will be some time till I actually put it to use. But it is a good buy for the future!

The rear adjusting knobs are so close they grate against each other making it well nigh impossible to use them. In fact, on the first jig that was delivered to me, the knobs had shattered because of this fault. You can see how each knob interferes with the other on the photograph of the jig.Once a set up has been achieved the the knobs, which beside being difficult to use, cannot, because of their design, tighten sufficiently to hold the setting rigid and the flimsy bars slide all over the place.The bed that holds one piece of wood horizontally and the edge that holds the other piece vertically are not set at 90 degrees so the edges and face of the drawer never fit.The edge guide for the vertical wood was so proud it caught the bottom of my router bit so I had to replace that.The gripper to hold the horizontal wood in place is so far away from the cutting edge the wood edge is about 3mm above the machine bed so any downward pressure alters the cut.I have wasted near on three days trying to get it do what it said it would do.It is so poorly made I will never buy anything from Silverline again.Disgusted that they even have it on the market.I now do dovetails by hand, easier and quicker and the cost of the tools to do them, £25.

Je vraagt je af of dit product ooit enige kwaliteitscontrole heeft doorlopen...Zetwerk van het stalen frame en andere onderdelen niet haaks en niet vlak, schroefdraad op stelknoppen verspringt halverwege, en bramen aan het aluminium slabloon, waardoor onzuivere maatvoering....na enige uren werk en toegang tot een metaalwerkplaats is het min of meer werkend maar eigenlijk had ik het ding retour moeten sturen!

Ero un po' perplessa per le molte recensioni negative. Ma la curiosità è donna! Per fortuna!!Fa bene il suo lavoro e… a me sembra sufficientemente precisa. Ho fatto un bell'incastro già alla prima prova.Certo… ci sarà sicuramente di meglio in commercio!!! Ma per chi si diletta con la falegnameria a livello amatoriale , direi che è ben oltre ogni aspettativa
