I recall taking my (late)usually careful, mother-in-law to a Charleston hospital after she injured herself cutting a bagel and vowed that would never happen to me. There are now several different types of accessories for cutting bagels and I was not too excited about the "guillotine" variety. I chose this rather simple, safe piece. Some bagels are pretty hefty in size and involve more work plus a very good bread knife! Bamboo is an attractive wood which tolerates water required to clean the unit. It's a long overdue addition to the kitchen and - recommend- "yes"!

This is a good looking little box, intended to slice a bagel into two equal halves. the trouble is that the bagel wobbles once placed inside the box. furthermore, one must have a really look serrated knife to be able to reach both sides of the bagel cutting box. Once a bagel is placed inside, the loose fit of the bagel results in a lot of difficulty in cutting the bagel because of the sideways motion of the bagel. One ends up taking the bagel out of this contraption and finishing the cutting by hand, with the risk of cutting your hand (as I have done). Conclusion - find a bagel slicer that applies sideways pressure to the bagel, so that cutting results in two equal halves. DO NOT BUY THIS PRETTY LITTLE BOX for cutting your bagels!!

Purchased as a gift, was not disappointed. This is well made and fits even large bagels.

my left hand is paralyzed so trying to cut bread in half is always a scary thing for me to do. Then I got this bagel cutter, which by the way works with Kaiser rolls and other breads that fit in the slot. It’s easy to use and guides your knife until the very bottom. I use the serrated knife, which works better on bread. Bagels from Costco which are huge not a match for this amazing cutter.
