Catfish - Internet dishonesty
I enjoyed this dvd so much that I have continued to watch the series on Mtv. Nev and his friend Max are great people who try and help others reveal any relationship dishonesty or fake people with fake internet profiles. What is so disappointing about the world we live in nowadays is that people can lie so easily and mislead others into falling in love with who they think is the person they're talking to over the web ether. Fake pictures, fake families, most of their profile make-up is fake. What's so bad about being honest? Yes, okay, people have self-esteem/other issues but what's the point of lying....too many people get hurt in the process just to make yourself feel better at the time. And then one little lie becomes one huge lie, and there's no going back then. When the people do finally meet up, invariably they still manage to sustain some kind of relationship, and that's once the truth has finally come out. It's so heartbreaking watching the genuine person who's fallen in love with 'their' catfish to finally meet up and see the truth for what it is. Ultimately Nev was the first person to get hurt by falling in love with a Catfish and he certainly won't be the last.I would recommend this to anyone who uses online relationship engines to meet single people in the hope of building up a relationship or finding a companion.....the truth is quite shocking.

CATFISH(dir Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman/86 minutes)There's been quite a bit of controversy surrounding this alleged `documentary', with many claiming that it was elaborately staged by its stars. It feels authentic and never puts a foot wrong, though personally, I find the events that unfold in the film slightly difficult to accept as an accurate constitution of reality; everything seems just that little bit too coincidental to be true, and I agree with others (including Super Size Me nutcase Morgan Spurlock) who have noted that the film-makers started rolling the tape very early on, before anything suspicious or untoward had occurred. However, who cares? Fact or fiction, truth or false, this is a compelling, engaging, fascinating experience - like all the best documentaries there is a story here that twists, turns and shocks in equal measure. The story begins when professional photographer Nev is sent a painting of one of his photographs by an eight-year-old child prodigy. They subsequently establish a friendship on Facebook, which leads to Nev befriending her entire family and striking up a long distance romance with the singer/songwriter teenage daughter. However, without giving too much away, things aren't what they seem. What follows is certainly memorable...

An incredible true story
Wow! This was an eye opener! An amazing gorilla-style documentary about a young guy who thinks he's met the girl of his dreams online..... it couldn't be further from the truth! I kind of knew the background story a little, as I have seen some of 'Catfish' series on tv.I initially found the idea of a 'Catfish' (someone pretending to be someone else online), very disturbing and creepy, but actually many times it turns out that the person is suffering in their real life, so they make up a persona for themselves, as a kind of escapism. I find human psychology fascinating!I find the makers of Catfish to be young men, with a huge amount of compassion and thoughtfulness, beyond their years really. No matter how dramatic or disturbing the story, they always strive to see the good in people, and to give them a fair chance to explain their actions. Gives me hope for the human race! Lol

FaceBook Fantacist
'Catfish' is a peculiar documentary that begins as one sort of project, and evolves into something entirely different! Yaniv Schulman is a young NYC photographer who strikes up an online friendship with an 8-year old girl artist (Abbey) who has contacted him via FaceBook, asking permission to paint one of his photographs. Their correspondence continues and picks up pace with the exchange of messages, paintings and the widening of Yaniv's involvement to include the little girl's mother and older sister. Yaniv's brother Ariel decides to create a documentary about this burgeoning friendship, especially as Yaniv seems to be rather smitten with Megan, the little girl's attractive older sister. Eventually the brothers develop suspicions that all is not quite right regarding the information being relayed to them from Abbey, her mother Angela and even the lovely Megan. And so the documentary shifts from heart-warming human interest story to mystery - unravelling a web of complex online deception. In turns charming, funny, mysterious and unbearably sad, 'Catfish' is rather irresistible, and takes you to a most unexpected conclusion. It is a credit to the Schulman brothers that their investigations are not conducted with vengeance, but with sensitivity and kindness. Recommended.

Not good
The very first Catfish story that prompted the UK and USA programmes. Although, you are left wondering if it all really happend of are some scenes scripted, like many American reality shows.
