SHIMANO105 RD-5701-SS Rear Derailleur Short Cage

I recently acquired a Tour Easy recumbent from around the year 2000. This was a fairly high end bike with Shimano Deore in the back and 105 up front. The original Deore in the back was pretty tired so I decided to replace it. I’ve bought 3 deraileurs recently, two Alvio and one low profile Alvio class. They are good units, but have a fair amount of plastic in them.The 105 series is a step above Deore in quality and this one seems to be all aluminum like the one it replaced.It worked well for this bike which has 700C rims. I ultimately had to replace the cassette as it was jumping gears, but the bike is all Shimano now, new rapid fire shifters too, all the SRAM junk is finally gone.

I destroyed my original rear 105 when I installed a chain improperly. I was able to find this and install and properly install my chain and have toured on it and it works great. Saved a ton of money vs. having it done at a shop, not only do they charge an arm and a leg, some of the attitudes of the shops were condescending, they only wanted to sell me a new bike. Horrible.

It was time to replace my 12 yr old 105. It was still functioning but definitely had seen better days. This "newer version" was solid and comparable in build quality as my original, installation was easy, setting high and low was a piece of cake.Shifting is crisp and precise, I can't see any reason this one won't last as long as the original.

So I’m not a huge road cyclist, but I am a bicycle tech and have been for 23 years now.The shimano 105 group set in my opinion is the best FOR THE $$$$. I love my bike but it’s a basic road bike “trek domane”. It had a really basic group set on it. So I decided to swap it over to 105. There’s better out there. But this works just fine. Never fails me.

I have a 2010 GT Expert with an Ultegra 6600 drivetrain. I've been keeping it alive as long as I can, but I'm running out of options for compatible parts. Recently, my shifting started acting up and the 6700 shifter I have is not that old, I think about 2.5 years. So, I thought maybe it was the derailleur since it has not been changed and I probably have 60-70,000 miles on it.I replaced the cable, the chainring, the chain and the derailleur. It still had the same shifting problem. That left only one thing, the shifters! I replaced them and it fixed the problem.In the mean time, I can say that this "Shimano 105 RD-5701-SS Rear Derailleur Short Cage" fits as a replacement for my Shimano Ultegra RD-6600 -SS with a 12/25 cassette and a 50/34 chainring. I'm also using a non-shimano chainring at the moment since I can't even find a "SHIMANO FC-5750 Chainring (Silver, 110x50T 10 Speed)" anywhere, never mind an Ultegra! I bought a "WEST BIKING Road Bike Chainring 110BCD 34T/50T Tooth" as a replacement.Anyway, the mix & match is backup and running.

Replaced an 18 year old ultregra unit. Works great , very little extra weight. Went on fine .
