She's back
It's been a long time since a new Shania Twain album. Anyone reading this will probably know the personal and health issues she's had since the last one.But she's back. With sixteen new songs. Obviously without her previous partner and producer on them. They're all on one cd. Which comes in a plastic holder inside a cardboard cd sleeve. This contains a flap to hold a lyrics book. With the lyrics to all sixteen songs. And a few glamorous photos of Shania herself.Listening to the first song, you do right off notice how different her voice sounds. But then you notice how she can still really sing and carry a tune. So you admire her for it.There's an electic mix to the subjects of the songs. Only a couple are about life after breakup and divorce. Some are mournful romance. Some are uplifting. They're all very good and well written. But there's not quite a real stand out. No real catchy number that will live on your mind for long. Although many are excellent while they last.First track 'Swingin' with my eyes closed' does try to be uplifting and has a nice chorus, so I do find this one coming back to me quite often. But others not so much.. Although some do come close to it. 'We got something they don't' is an excellent love song. 'Soldier' is a beautifully mournful number about a missing love. And 'all in all' closes nicely on a superbly reflective but uplifting number. So it's a good album rather than a great one. But that's all going to be a matter of opinion. And If you're a fan, and prepared to give it a chance, it's definitely worth a try.

WORTH THE WAIT
After many traumatic years, the Queen of Country /Pop has returned in triumph. Her vocal quality has not been diminished at all. This 16 track CD, with accompanying lyrics, all written by herself, includes 2 songs that have been played regularly on the radio, namely `Swingin` With My Eyes Closed` and `Life`s About To Get Good`. The remaining 14 tracks are a variety of uptempo and ballad styles. My personal favourites are `Home Now` and the somewhat poignant `Soldier`. As with her previous release possibly more of these songs will be released as singles. The accompanying musicians are exceptional, and Shania even sings on the backing vocals. I am sure her fans will be pleased with her return and with this CD.

Fantastic!
I love this album! Yes its quite different and you definitely need to listen to it more then once. I've listened to it loads. My faves are: Home now, Poor me, Whos gonna be your girl, More fun, I'm alright, Lets kiss and make up, Where do you think you're going, We got something they don't, Because of you, Lifes about to get good, Soldier, All in all. Always been a fan and her Up album is still one of the best! Saw her in concert in 2004. Hoping the Now tour comes out on dvd!

I love this album
I've been a fan of shania for the past 20 years. I love this album. It's personal and although she's not working with Mutt as per previous albums, this album still has a 'Shania sound'. I find it frustrating when I read some people saying how this is not like her previous albums. The whole point of being an artist is being able to evolve, and she did this with this album without sacrificing the intrinsic Shania sound and personality. There are a few divorce-related songs in this album, but the overall feel of this album is very positive and reflects overcoming obstacles. Amazing album.

Disappointingly dull
I loved Shania's brand of pop crossover country that produced so many memorable songs at the back end of the 1990's and early 2000's. I thought her DVD's from the period were great and thoroughly enjoyed seeing her in concert in 2003, one of the best I have attended.I was looking forward to hearing her first, full new album in almost 15 years and I have to say I found it dull, very dull in fact. Now I understand that Shania has not had the greatest of times in the intervening period with marital problems and illness, and given she is now 52, I was anticipating a more mature sound. The tracks have a more rock blues tinge added to the country rather than the pop of old. They are competently performed, but the problem is they all merge together, nothing particularly stands out, there is no change of pace. I can't actually single out any one song for additional comment.I think it might be an album that could grow on you a little bit with time, or at least I hope it does, because Shania Twain is much better than this.

Deeper and more meaningful than her previous work
I listened to this album just after midnight on release day and fell in love with her new voice. I already had 4 tracks that were released prior to the album so I knew her voice had gotten deeper due to Lymes disease. Each track is carefully constructed and is both lyrically and musically incredible. I've got it on repeat so I can learn the words like I did with her other albums. Thankfully it comes with a lyric booklet just like her other albums. If you're expecting another Come On Over you won't get it. That was then, this is NOW.
