This is the book I wish I'd had when I was 19! Yes, it's an introduction to many concepts and ideas. Yes, it's written for the beginning explorer. However, unlike some introductory books, it's not fluffy or simplified in ways that reduce the complexity or richness of the subject, a very fine line to tread indeed! For example, the modern language version of the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram is both accessible and effective. The imagery and the wording is made clearer without reducing either its potency or its beauty. As someone who is well aware of the roots and the tradition behind it, but who often finds the original pompous and slow, (after all, I'm an Aries and want action now!) it's a great update, and one I will use. That's just one example of the way the authors have rendered a complicated subject accessible.Also, while it's simplified, it never talks down or assumes that the reader is not a serious seeker. We all walk before we run. Being new to something doesn't make us dilettantes or shallow. The authors do an excellent job of introducing complexity without overwhelming. The many simple rituals, lists, and correspondences also shine.In short, this book is a great introduction and one I would certainly gift to anyone asking questions. However, for the experienced practitioner it also cuts through some of the tangles and provides a great resource. Highly recommended!

Bought this book to give me more insight into a family member born under Aries. I got lots of useful information about my Aries relative, but even more than that, for really the first time (in 25 years of hanging out with people who do Astrology) I started to understand how this Astrology stuff works. Beautiful writing, clear explanations. Now I'm looking forward to the next book in the series, which will help me understand more about someone even closer.
