Good way to track if your kids will leave it alone.
My twin toddlers kept running off, thinking they were playing a fun game of chase. No matter how many times they got into trouble, they just couldn't resist trying to give us heart attacks. So we got these trackers to try and keep track while also giving them a little more freedom.Good: You can set multiple units to the same base unit. You can set the distance alerts, and increase the distance with more comfort. They're not blatantly conspicuous, and come with a latch that can easily be hooked onto a zipper or shoelace. Both units go off if the distance exceeds the set boundary, or if either unit is turned off. The parent can also set off the mobile units regardless of distance.Bad: Not waterproof, so tying them to a kiddo at a large swimming pool is not going to happen. Also, the switch is located on the bottom, and perfect for little fingers to turn on and off. My twins figured out how to do it in less than a minute.BUT... after a few times of loss of privileges for turning off the unit, my kiddos got the message and now leave their units alone. I am now in the process of teaching them to come back to me if their units do go off. I will simply press my button until they are within arm's reach, and "turn their alarm off."I only give it 4 stars because it is not waterproof, and with kids, some level of waterproof is necessary. Also, it's simply too easy for the kids to turn the units on and off.

I love the idea, but doesn't always work as I had hoped
I bought the Artec Guardian Angel Tracker because I have a 6 year old with autism and a 3 year old. They have a tendency to wander off and I can't keep my eyes on both of them at the same time. I thought this would be great for when we go to the park, mall, amusement park, etc. I've used it at the park a few times, but it gets a lot of "false alarms" (maybe from cell phone interference?). I tried to tell my kids that if their "bug" beeped, that meant they had gone too far and needed to come back to me. When it kept beeping while they were where they were supposed to be, my 3 yr. old just looked at me confused. Thankfully I have not had them get lost and had to use the search mode. I hope that it would work it that situation, but I don't have a lot of confidence it it. The manual says "Guardian Angel might experience interference & loss of signal in crowded location such as shopping mall, amusement park. It is important to teach kids to go to an open area and stay there until their parents show up." I'm afraid it may not work when I need it the most. I was hoping that by buying the more expensive product, it would be a little more reliable. I'm going to keep it because if it does work, it could be a lifesaver.I do like that it has a panic button on the "bug" and that it can help you tell what direction a lost person/object is in.

It works if you manage your expectations
After losing a toddler at a Thomas the Tank Engine event for almost a minute, I decided I needed this to tag my kids at places where there are lots of people or lots of space they could get lost in. The most useful thing I have found is the alarm that goes off if they go outside a certain range. This is modified by obstacles and electromagnetic fields, but it's pretty easy to find a setting that works depending on where you are (e.g. short range in an outdoor play area or at home, medium range in a pumpkin patch, long range at a park with good visibility). It makes you less worried about constantly maintaining eye contact since the alarm will go off if they wander. The feature to get bearing is accurate to within 60 degrees once you get used to using it. What I'll typically do is do the 360 degree scan, and then I'll just move in the direction indicated for about 10-20 feet, then take another 360 degree reading. It seems to get less accurate if you just do the sweep while you move. The first few times I used it I thought I looked pretty silly but then I realize people look like this when looking at their phones all the time, so I fit right in.Everywhere I use it I have a couple parents ask me about it. It seems everyone with more than one kid has at least one wanderer...

Great product for Disney trip.
I purchased this product on Amazon before a trip to Disney in Orlando. I have two sons (ages 5 and 2.5). My 2-year-old is a runner so I felt I needed help managing him there. I don't usually write reviews, but since I was quite confused by the mixed reviews here I decided to add my 2 cents. This product worked great for me. I only used it with the two trackers that come with it, and it was very easy to set it up. The ladybugs are small enough to fit in my kids short pockets, or clasped to the inside of their shorts if no pockets were available. As mentioned in other comments, the different distance ranges allow you to determine how far your child can go before it alarms, but the distance estimates are obviously not perfect as walls, people, and electromagnetic fields can interfere with the signal between the tracker and the handheld base. Within the first 2 days this product lived up to expectations as it alarmed as my 2-year-old walked away from my wife and I while we were trying to determine where to go next, and it alarmed again several other times during the trip, calling our attention to a distracted child wandering away. One issue with this product is that it does get interference from other equipment as I mentioned above and as described in other reviews. However, it was relatively easy to tell that when near some rides at Disney the alarm would go off even when my kids were right next to me. For example, every time a certain flying dinosaur ride stopped on the ground, the alarm beeped once. This was not an issue as I quickly learned how to tell the difference between a missing child (persistent alarm) and an interference signal (often a single/short burst). It was also a good reminder to check where they were. The alarm also beeped at the airport near automatic doors. A nuisance really, but not a serious problem for me. I had a couple occasions where the alarm was beeping incessantly, and it turned out that my son was sleeping in the stroller and rolled on top of the tracker, pressing the alarm button in the ladybug in his pocket.Another great feature on this product was the ability to turn one or both ladybugs tracking off from the handheld base. Whenever my wife had to take one of our sons to the bathroom or on a different ride I could turn the signal off from the handheld base quite easily. The ability to find the general direction the kids were located was also useful. I used it mostly to find where my wife was in a crowded park when we got separated with one child each. I can say it worked well up to about 150-250 yards away, but I did not test it beyond this distance. It provides you a general direction to walk towards (or look) to find someone, but it is not a laser-guided aim by any measure. Yes, you do feel silly spinning around to calibrate it, but whatever. We used the tracker every day (about 14 - 16 hours per day), and after 5-6 days the batteries died, so if going for longer trips plan accordingly. The type of batteries on the ladybugs were not as easy to find in the park as regular AAA. We also might have forgotten the units on overnight a couple of times. No complaints, and I have recommended it already to a few friends.

Rubbish
Don't bother these are worse than rubbish. Bought for a festival and spent an hour running round a festival trying to find my kids to find out they where 10 foot away from where I started. Don't waste your money on this.

it works just fine for our needs
I purchased this item due to having a 2 year old that likes to run free. we had lost her once for almost 5 minutes in a very busy place. we did eventually find her in a soft play zone within the building we were in. had we had this tracker at the time, we would have been alerted far quicker that she had come to be more than 16ft away from us. and we would have been able to do the search function and find her too. this item became a necessity for us and as such we now use it on our 5 year old too. we have tried it out by playing hide and seek prior to needing to use it in a search function. it works just fine for our needs. it has provided us with the assurance we need with a stubborn loose lady!!

Caution
I bought the tracker to help find a relative suffering from dementure, should the need arise.Unfortunately, after I'd bought it, I discovered that pacemakers run on the same frequency so I darn't use it.No one to blame but me for not doing my research,I hope this helps someone with the same problem.
