Very slow read and write speed for a USB 3 drive.
I never like writing negative reviews, but this is a rather poor drive. I was wanting a replacement for my LG external disk drive that is 10 years old. Given that this said it was USB 3, I expected it to be at least matched to a PC with a built in disk tray. A drive like this is usually quicker than my old LG one. But this brand new one is about 3 times slower than my really old one! When it was ripping a DVD, it was doing so on average at about 90fps. That is terrible. My LG drive can handle over 300fps with the same disk. Has technology not moved on in 10 years? The positives is that it does indeed only need to be powered by USB to get it to work. My LG one requires a 2A 12v power supply or else it won't work at all. I even tried using the supplied power cable with this Jokdeer drive and plugged it directly into my PC. It always worked, but was painfully slow.The other thing that disappointed me was the build quality. It will be good enough if you don't move it much but the"all aluminium" build claim seems a bit much. The edges are not aluminium and the aluminium itself must be a tiny fraction of a millimetre thick. when you feel it, it is cold to the touch, like metal is. But if you tap on it, it sounds really hollow and cheap. And it flexes with a lot of pressure.This drive will be fine for people that just want to watch a DVD. but if you want that, you don't need USB 3. But it is slow at loading anything. I read some professional reviews of this and they seemed to like it but I am wondering if they were just doing it to please this brand that isn't that well known. On Amazon.com, there are loads of reviews of this saying it has got a really old disk caddy inside with specifications that don't match the advertising description. The people that tended to do those reviews often believed that many of the good reviews were just customers that got given the drive free to review.I would stay away from this and stick to a known brand. It seems that virtually no well known brands makes a USB 3 drives at this price from what I can tell so it makes me wonder that all these other brands that say they are USB 3 are not actually what they say. This certainly didn't perform at that level considering something from 2007 can do the job far faster. Mine could possibly be faulty. But given the reviews elsewhere, I'm not sure. It does seem reliable, just consistently slow.

at startup needs attention
Great External DVD Drive. However plugged to USB3 often has crashed, better use USB2. It is also better to install another latest DVD player (eg Fast or Ax-Lite) because Windows Player has trouble recognising it.Also, never connect the power cable to the same computer.

Total Rubbish ! Defective and had already been opened !
Utter Rubbish ! This item was received today and it has already been opened ! It had TWO seal stickers on it. One slightly askew to the other. I removed the top one and the one beneath had been cut ! Meaning most likely that this product was sold to me as BRAND NEW but was in fact, RETURNED GOODS. And what is worse, it was defective and did not work. I have an up to date Dell XPS15 and this drive could not be recognised. I highly suggest avoiding this product.

This DVD drive is very well made looks good but I can only give it 2 stars because I bought it to rip my CD collection into my new lap top running windows 10 and I did not work. So I returned to amazon for a full refund. Reading other reviews on several other models it seems most have problems with windows 10 so I am waiting to see if they can sort things out before trying an other device.

My only grump is that it seems picky about the amount of marks & scatches on the CD. I've known other drives to be less fussy

Fails to record DVD’s after just a few months use
I am disappointed with this device, I am at a loss as to where to purchase a DVD drive that lasts. This is the second drive that has failed in a similar way. I write only two DVD’d per week so it is not a question of over use. The reviews don’t address longer use, It looks ok so a review written soon after purchase would not be aware of the very short life of the device.

Playing only region 1 what about the rest regions.
Very Bad. Working only region 1 . Where is it 1Completely rubish. You can’t play dvd and cd in UK and Europe very stupid for Amazon to sell staf like that.

really like it.
My old CD player has been broken for a long time, and my old DVD player is quite big. i have always wanted another one. this DVD Drive is small and light, it's very portable and it can play both CD and DVD very well. really like it.
