This is a heavy duty antenna fixed to a magnetic base by a screw fitting and the whip is held by a small allan key bolt. It is very simple to set up. Select the frequency you are interested in from the chart and having removed the whip, cut the whip from the bottom to the required length. The whip is made from some kind of spring steel and is very hard to cut. However once it is done you can know with certainty that the whip will never bend out of shape, or snap. I needed it for receiving AIS transmissions, and it works significantly better than my previous wide band antenna. I expect this will last a very long time.

For the price works better then I thought it would, using it for ais tracking on my laptop.

Had a few mag mounts over the years this one doesn't have a separate rubber protector which means it will last a lot longer then the mags I have used before, a good buy !
