BirkenstockUnisex Arizona BS Suede Leather Sandals

I've been wearing two strap Birkenstocks for 25 years. The most comfortable, wonderful things. I live in my Arizonas all summer long and when the evenings draw in the felt clogs are perfect slippers. I prefer the man-made straps to leather as they are softer on the tops of the feet, look good, are hard wearing and quite a bit cheaper. My Arizonas tend to fall to pieces after about 5 years (resoling is not cost effective) so the leather straps seem a bit pointless.ALL ADULT BIRKENSTOCKS ARE EQUIVALENT TO UK HALF SIZES WHOLE UK SIZED BIRKENSTOCKS DO NOT EXIST!!!I previously bought EU46’s and had never considered what that was in a UK size, why would I - they fitted! I made an assumption that I was size 11 and here were a pair of size 11’s et voila! This pair were not UK11 and had to go back because they were actually EU45/UK10.5. The supplier did not use the Birkenstock size guide and the Amazon chart didn’t help either.There is NO conversion standardisation for EU/UK/US sizes - every chart gives a different answer! ALL brands come up different, I have shoes ranging from UK11 to 13 but because I tried them on in an actual shop (remember them) I just kept asking for a bigger size until they were just right!According to Birkenstock EU45 is UK10.5 and EU46 is UK11.5. You will read a lot that Birkenstocks come out large and to buy a size down - I can’t agree - I am UK11 exactly and found the EU45 so small my toes end up almost over the ends, I prefer EU46’s because it allows room for the foot to slide forward as you walk(this is a characteristic of the orthopaedic sole), others might prefer a snugger fit, getting the size right is part science, part luck and part personal preference - Okay it's a minefield and I probably haven't helped at all!

After reading many reviews about Birkenstocks and a lot of complaints about fit/ how they are now made too narrow etc I was a little reticent in ordering these. I have wanted a pair for years, having had a pair I found on discount in my late teens and living in them for the following few years. I have wide square feet, they have some swelling due to arthritis and general foot spread after three children. I was concerned that these would not fit anymore. I am also generally a uk6. I ordered the 5.5 as the only other option is a uk 7.They fit perfectly. I only had to do the straps up half way. My heels do not overhang, there is more toe room and the width is perfect for my feet... they are not too narrow. My feet also feel supported for the first time in years, which tells me the price that put me off is what I may have to start saving for in order to have comfortable feet. It's worth it; although it has been the main reason I have not purchased them to date.I'm waiting for the weather to warm up now so I can wear them out.

I've had these for 5 years now, wearing them every summer and they are still going strong. The grip on the sole has worn down now, but apart from that they still look great and I will not be replacing for a while. Great investment

My other half is a big Birkenstock fan and has been trying to talk me into a pair for the past 3 years. While I'm stubborn, he's patient and determined... he eventually won. I purchased these as my first pair. Mainly because they looked like soft fabric rather than the hard, stiff upper that I know would give me blisters. It happens to me with every pair of shoes that are stiff if I can't wear socks.Ordering was not the most straight forward experience. I'm a standard UK, women's size 6. The size options for these were 5, 5.5 or 7. As a result, I had to check the Birkenstock site to see if this was an actual thing. As it turned out, their 5.5. is pretty much a 6.So, I selected the 5.5 and committed to them. They arrived the next day and are much better than I expected. The upper part of the shoes is soft and does not rub. The lower supports my foot nicely. The only issue is that, because it is moulded to the foot, it sometimes sticks before releasing with a 'farty' noise. I wear mine around the house so it doesn't matter but I could imagine that this could make for some awkward misunderstandings in public. Otherwise, I'm very happy with the purchase. :D

Nice, solid, well made German items. But just... stupidly large.I'm normally a size 10. The size 9.5 (285mm) pair I bought were reminiscent of what Jacques Cousteau might wear to go reef diving. I returned these and bought a size 9 instead, which were still too big. Getting silly now.Putting my foot on the measuring scale printed on the inside of every Birkenstock box, and helpfully reproduced on their UK web site, reveals the ideal size for my feet is actually 265mm, which on their chart is 7.5! Last time I bought size 7.5 shoes was in secondary school. So you can see my frustration at having to return multiple same items to Amazon (who've in truth been very good).NB. My previous size 9.5 Birkies were purchased on 23 July 2009 and it's only the fact the cork has crumbled slightly on the left sandal that I'm having to buyer another pair now. Why the sizing has changed is anyone's guess.

The Service and the sandals were excellent, however I ordered my usual size. When I tried them on they were at least one, possibly two sizes, too big, so they were returned. No reflection on the seller.

Birkenstock is by far the most comfortable sandal out there. I can wear them all day at WDW or Disneyland and have no issues at the end of the day. As long as you have the correct size it’s the best sandal on the market.
