Can you play the ticket to ride (North American map) rules on the European set?

The European set is also a base game however if you somehow acquired the European map without buying the retail version you could technically play on it. However, you would be missing the train stations.

I'd recommend the original for one reason: Simplicity.The box for the original boasts that the rules can be explained in 2 minutes and it really is true. That's one of the biggest selling points of the game, it's incredibly approachable by all people of all ages.While the other variants are all very similar, they all seem to add in a new mechanic or two which slightly complicate play.

How playable is this game for just two?

TTR is a great 2 player game. Its more fun with 3-5 I think but still definitely worth playing with 2. Competition over routes is not as intense but it's easier to try and work out where your opponent is headed and mess with their plans. Muahahaha!
