Swiss Alpine Railways – The Brünig DvdThere has been a subtle change in the Swiss Federal Railways’ only narrow gauge line – the Brünig – over recent years. The old luggage motor vans from the early 1940s have been relegated to push-pull shuttle train working over the non-mountain section of the line. Through trains over the 74 kilometres between Luzern and Interlaken are now hauled by relatively new HGe4/4” locomotives. There is still a certain amount of freight traffic and standard gauge wagons are carried on Rollchemel transporters. Passenger cars are now all red in livery and there have been innovations such as Bistro cars, a games car and a number of interesting refurbishments. Of course, the wonderful scenery is still the same. This is a journey of lakes and mountains and the breath-taking Alpine backdrop is there in every shot. There is unseasonal snow, sunshine and just a little rain, not to mention narrow gauge trains speeding through the valleys and grinding up the rack sections. What a combination!
