The right tool for the job
I feel there is quite a jump from Grade 5 theory to grade 6. This may be because there appears to be a lot of chord related content and as a clarinet player; I have never played a chord let alone have any knowledge of how they work. I have started reading the ABRSM books but for me personally these are not quite explaining thing in a way that works for me. The Victoria Williams book (I have only got and looked at the grade 6 book so far) is brilliant. I have only just started working through it but I am finding it easy so far to take on board what is being taught. I have shown this book to my music teacher, who I rate highly and he is impressed with the book too (If you are wondering why my music teacher has not recommended theory books to me, he teaches me practical and I mainly work on theory myself, getting help when I want it. As a mature student this is my preferred choice.Back to the book, I feel it is well written, good value for money with the right amount of exercises to test understanding. I like that the answers follow the exercises so are easy to refer to refer to.

Good book, great author
Brilliant book , although a bit thin on examples in places. I'm still not sure how to use a passing 64. But, I'm teaching myself, and the linking website helps.

Same as website
Good book, but the content is exactly the same as on her website MyMusicTheory.com. I bought this book thinking it would be an extension of the website but they are the same. This does give you space to write out the exercises which is useful, but the site allows you to listen to the extracts. This all being said, the book/ website are pretty exaustive and contain good information to learn all of grade 6 (I needed more help on composition, which I hoped this book would help with - looks like I just need to re-read and try again).I would reccomend this book or the website to anyone needing to learn ABRSM Grade 6 music theory.

Thorough, detailed and with clear explanations and learning exercises that work
Just what I needed. For those of us who have been using and watching the development of Victoria William's material over the years, we knew this book was going to be good, and it is. She has become the foremost educator in music theory for the ABRMS syllabus due to the thoroughness of approach, but also the properly spelt out explanations and teaching style. In this book, for example, on page 181 she sets out 10 questions which can be used to determine the key of a piece and its modulations. She then invites the reader to use this in subsequent pieces but asks questions that are more condensed. In this way you learn. This comprehensive book is a marvel of explanation and attention to detail. It must have taken years of work to assemble.

Excellent book
Victoria has created this amazing book in a logical, easy-to-understand way. Every time a new topic arises, there is a test within the following pages to ensure the reader understands what she has written. I cannot recommend this book highly enough. Great job Victoria!
