Great guide book
Comprehensive book on Columbia Gorge hikes and surrounding locales. Also, the small size is appreciated- it really packs in a lot. I understand the criticism of the maps but I always do a google search of what I'm going to hike beforehand (you can always snap a picture of those maps on your phone), and then there are other things online, too, like alltrails, avenza, and other sources, so I'm totally fine with the author's choices. This will definitely be used in future trips to the gorge!

Essential guide for PNW hikers and daytrippers!
This guide is hands down excellent, and indispensable for any Oregon-based or PNW-visiting hikers. This guide lists a multitude of trails, all within close distance of Portland, OR and also has a handy index with a grid listing trail length, elevations, sights (waterfalls, bird watching, etc) and other useful information. This book makes it incredibly easy to pick out exactly the kind of hike that you are in the mood for, based on the time of year, how long you have to hike, the difficulty level and what you're interested in seeing.I've used this book for over a year, and love checking out new hikes to do with my friends, and checking off the hikes I've already accomplished. The trail info is all in a very readable and easily digestible format, and includes small trail maps and directions to reach each trailhead. If the book itself is too cumbersome to carry on your hike with you, it's easy to snap a photo of the hike page in your smart phone and use as a digital guide for your hike.

Paperback - 5 Stars. Kindle version - 3 stars
I have the paperback - Love it. I thought the kindle copy would be great to have with me. Unfortunately the maps in the digital edition don't even blow up to the resolution of the small maps in the book - Kindle maps are very soft. Guess I'll still carry a zerox of the page in the book. However all the text is there and very handy to have in a portable format. Craig Romano went to the trouble of putting the trails on real topo maps - I want to see them in better detail.

Great condition
This book arrived quickly and in almost brand new condition. I haven't had a chance to use it yet, but this series of books is always reliable in their information. Good details of the hike, can't wait to use it in the Gorge.

We All Do It
We drive past in a heated flurry and wonder what that hike or that trail or that park would be like to explore. And then we reconsider because we aren't sure what to expect or if we have the right gear. A lovely book to help guide your path and to use for planning fun side trips, day outings and overnight explorations.

Our dogs love them
Our two Bernrese Mt dogs will do almost anything for one of these threats. They eagerly look forward to bedtime in their kennels for this reward.

Excellent book. Has all the information on how to get there, what to expect, and how difficult the hike is, plus the length of the hike. Will be using this book a lot.

You'll Need Better Reading Glasses
The information in the book is worthwhile and the author did a good job, but the print and map graphics on the pages are too small. I'm only in my early 50's, so my vision isn't entirely gone due to old age, and I don't have trouble reading other books. If you buy this book, do yourself a favor and get a pocket magnifying glass or put some inch-thick lenses in your reading glasses to see the tiny sized font. Stupid move on the part of the publishers. They turned an otherwise good book into a frustrating reading experience.
