DVI2USB 3.0 – Portable DVI to USB Video Grabber for capturing Video from Any Device with a DVI, VGA or HDMI Signal up to 60 fps

So far my experience has been exactly that - 1 star.The device drivers won't start for the device. All I see Windows reporting is that "device cannot start". Epiphan software just says that no devices are found. By the way, the device has custom drivers, and the only reason to have custom drivers for a standard device is when hardware/software design of the device was too lazy to follow standard protocols. Other devices (e.g. Magewell) have no need for custom drivers. The Linux drivers provided by Epiphan is even a worse mess:1) First, they are proprietary, so they will taint your kernel2) Second, some of the downloads are plain incomplete, the latest FC23 driver has no "extra" directory that Makefile depends on3) There is no path to include the drivers into DKMS, so each kernel update you'll have to rebuild them (or figure out DKMS on your own)4) Latest FC22 drivers don't work on latest FC22 kernel (missing symbols)Since the device consistently doesn't work in either Linux or Windows, it's probably just DOA. Which is fine, there can always be hardware problems, but what really ticked me is that it's impossible to create a support ticket online. Sure, I can call, but it's 8pm in California (of course they are closed), and I don't want to leave a message and have them call me back when I'm most likely going to be busy, not have access to the device, in a noisy environment, etc. This is by far not the kind of support and expectations I'd have for a $700 device in 2016.

I am using this on Linux (Ubuntu 12.10) for some video analysis software that I put together, and it works great. It exposes itself as either a V4L (Video for Linux) or as a DirectShow Device on Windows (which I didn't test).After a quick driver install, I was up and running and using this with SimpleCV for my Analysis.Highly recommended if you want something that just works. I haven't tried the audio capture yet, but it supposedly does that as well with an HDMI input signal, so I'm anxious to check it out.

Working very well. Did require one interaction with Support to get it up an running, Support was efficient at solving.

The DVI2USB was easy to connect to my MacBookPro and Sony VG30. I had to open the software first before getting video on Skype, but it is the only adapter that works for this purpose.

The fact that this unit isn't compatible with any recent OSX version makes it useless to me, after spending $700.WTH?

We have purchased close to 400 capture devices from Epiphan. Our most recent order of the DVI2USB 3.0 was for 100 - they are upgrades for over 200 venues which are being upgraded to digital and will replace the older VGA2USB LR models.We chose this over another product called Magewell because:- Far superior build quality.- Excellent Software- Excellent web presence and customer support (compared to Magewell which is non existent)Product packaging is excellent and secure.Build quality is superb, in aluminium housing which feels sturdy and reassuring. The Magewell, on the other hand, literally fell apart in the cupboard.Customer Support is excellent - I have had numerous chats with their online support chap (the aptly named 'Adam Frame') who has patiently troubleshooted issues with me, in a very clear and concise manner.Software is well maintained and regularly updated - easy to use and lots of settings to tweak, as well as decent capture monitoring capabilities.The price is CONSIDERABLY more than alternative solutions. But I feel it is worth it for the quality of product. This isn't a device if you're on a tight budget, but is a device if you want something extremely reliable. We used the previous model for well over a year, capturing everyday, 5 days a week - not one of them has ever failed.The one issue which stops this product getting 5 stars is the lack of ability to remote install the software via group policy. This might not be an issue for one-off users, but in a business setting this simply isn't good enough. We still have around 100 venues to upgrade to digital - we have over 200 venues in total. That means manually upgrading software one machine at a time - and it's a nightmare. The sooner they package this with their product they get the full 5 stars. It's shame actually, as our venues are expanding - this could seriously be the deal breaker on a future order with them. I hope they are able to get something together in the coming months, even weeks as we have spent a significant amount of money with them.
