Great Addition to my Toobox (IP508S OBD2 Scanner)
I have been using this scanner for the past two months and find it to be an extremely valuable addition to my toolbox. I am not a professional mechanic but I do all of my own repairs and take care of relatives and friends vehicles as well. I own several OBD scanners, including some from Xtools and others manufacturers, but I find this IP508S OBD2 Scanner to be, hands-down, the easiest to use and the very best so far. In my opinion, it is a great value for the price and it has paid for itself multiple times over. Some scanners are vehicle specific but this one works on all newer makes and models. For example, using it on my Mercedes it has tests and functions that aren't there on another scanner (which is dedicated strictly to Mercedes). It is simply plug and play when switching between vehicles and with the automatic software update I know it's always current. I've used it on Mercedes, Toyota, Hyundai, Ford, Chevy and others and it has worked flawlessly. Overall operation is easy to learn and similar to using an Android phone or tablet. In addition to Diagnostics, it has built in WiFi (internet browser), easy to save screenshots (saving codes for later reference), storage space, plus you can view and record live data with playback capabilities. The diagnostics function is solid and when troubleshooting a problem with an error code it will even do an Internet search on the code and direct you to relevant sites for assistance. I am 100% sold on this scanner and like I said, it's more than paid for itself by saving me troubleshooting time and letting me do my own repairs. It's small enough that when I travel away from home by car or truck I will be sure to have it with me, just it case of a problem. If a problem or warning light pops ups, it'll only take a minute to scan for the trouble code and decide the best course of action. Sometimes a simple reset of a code or light can be enough to get you going again. I highly recommend this scanner and plan on purchasing a second one as a gift for my son.

Well-Designed, Fast, Intuitive Operation, and Powerful!
I purchased the XTOOL IP508S to help diagnose an SRS problem in a 2006 Honda CR-V. The SRS fault light came on a couple of weeks ago and a reset effort was not successful in eliminating it, strongly suggesting that I had a real problem in the SRS system. Not wanting to take any risks with an airbag problem with an airbag either deploying without cause or failing to deploy in an accident, I first considered the XTOOL A30 based on some very favorable YOUTUBE videos. I contacted XTOOL to see if it would meet my requirements. Carina at XTOOL responded very quickly and suggested that the IP508S might be a better fit for my problem. I ordered the scanner through Amazon and received the next day.My first impression of the tool was the care that XTOOL had taken in packaging the scanner. The scanner itself is also “ruggedized” with oversized molded endcaps which would minimize any damage if the unit was dropped during diagnoses. The cable for connecting the scanner to the OBDII is a generous length which is not always the case with other scanners. I charged the system to full power, linked it to my Wi-Fi router (very simple), and allowed it to perform all the suggested updates. From that point, it was easy to connect it to my OBDII port and run a quick check. In probably less than a minute, it had completed its scan and identified the SRS problem as a 12-40 Trouble Code (“Right Front Airbag Second Inflator Open or Increased Resistance”). It also caught a couple of minor problems with the ABS system – Low brake fluid and low battery voltage – which was a bonus! The next step was contacting the local Honda dealer to determine if this fault would be covered by Honda. The Service Manager confirmed that Honda had notified dealers of this was a common-enough problem that replacement of the airbag would be covered by the company. So the IP508S has been a worthwhile investment, even just to provide some up-front knowledge of the SRS fault before contacting the dealer. (It’s powerful to have this information when working with dealers!)Now on to discover the additional capabilities of the IP508S!

Great tool and great support
First I want to mention the support. I have bought products (including scan tools) in the past, where there has basically been no support from the company. This company however is different. I have both called and emailed, and my phone call was answered and my emails always responded to in a timely manner. They are always quick to respond and provide assistance.Next is the tool itself. It is a great tool for the price! It has more functions than most any other tool I can find in this price range. It is very functional and can diagnose almost any vehicle from 1996 on. I have used it on a variety of vehicles so far and it has worked great each time. I have some bluetooth scan tools that you use your phone to access through an app, and the nice thing about this tool is you have a large screen that is easier to see and read, and the hard-wired connection is much faster than bluetooth. The tool itself is also a windows-based tablet, so you can do a lot of other things with it as well. The first time I tried the tool on a 2014 Subaru Crosstrek. The check engine light was on and I needed to figure out what was wrong and fix it so it would pass inspection. The tool connected quickly and was able to identify the vehicle right away. As soon as it was connected I was able to read the trouble code, then I was able to view the live data and could see that the sensor that was triggering the check engine light was not responding. A new sensor was installed and then I used the tool to clear the check engine light. Problem solved! The tool was really helpful in diagnosing the issue, confirming the problem, and clearing the codes.I have also used it on a few other vehicles with similar success. It is a nice tool and I would recommend it for anyone from a new DIY'er to more experienced wrenchers. One thing to keep in mind--if you will not be using the tool for a while (say more than a day or so), make sure you plug it in and/or turn the power off so the battery is ready to go next time you need it.
