There are some times when you cant wash your hands, eg out and about or water is off or similar.This product is the same as the ones in hospitals, so it does not dry out your hands, and does not have a horrible smell other brands have.it is FAR cheaper to get this big one and fill small bottles yourself for when you are out and about. I particularly use it after emptying bin bags into the skips outside when going out, or after using the lift someone decided sneeze or spit on the buttons or left greasy prints on door handles in the communal areas of the unhygienic flats i live in (its even made the news several times on hygiene issues due to people not washing their hands and spitting in the lift and corridors etc)therefore this helps keep your hands clean when needed
