Great Big Muff
I have been looking for a Pulse "Comfortably Numb", "Sorrow", etc. Gilmour type tone. I just play at home at moderate volumes into a clean small tube amp and was not having much success until I bought this pedal. I also own the EH Big Muff Pi, NYC and a Stomp Under Foot Civil War. The Pi sounded great at the bottom end but got a little nasty and noisy in the upper registers IMO. The SUF was much better but still lacked that certain something I was seeking - which included a sort of clearity and buzzing type of overtones -for lack of a better term. After seeing a YouTube solo using this pedal in a small rig - sounded great - and very high recommendations at Gilmourish.com I decided to give it a try.I was very pleased with the purchase. The Red Muck had just the right amount of big growling bass, low and mid pitch definition, buzz and warm controlled harmonics in mid and upper registers. It's all a matter of personal taste and how the pedal reacts with the rest of the amplification chain, but personally I love the sound I am getting. And the vendor, RogueGuitarShop, shipped immediately after I placed my order and I received it shortly thereafter - and they threw in a set of strings which I don't remember being in the offering description.My chain: American Strat, EMG DG pickups, Boss CS-2 compression sustainer, Red Muck, Maxon OverDrive (OD808), TC Electronic Nova Delay, Fender Blues Jr 15W amp.
