Willard / Ben Limited Edition Blu-Ray Box Set (Blu-Ray)

Top quality boxset. A treat for rodent lovers.
Willard / Ben Blu-ray box set. Second Sight Films 2017.Top quality set from Second Sight Films, thick card box, fold out poster, film artwork on the discs housed in black Blu-ray cases. Inlays are only 1 sided.Audio is LPCM uncompressed Dual Mono, I’m not a Mono fan but the films dialogue, score and effects are crisp and clear.Screen aspect is 1.85:1 and fully fills my widescreen TV without horizontal black bars.English subtitles are provided for both films.Willard is a new 4K scan of the original negative, Ben is a new HD transfer and restoration from the best archive print, both look great, some minor grain and flaws are visible on Ben.Bonuses are film commentary from the original actors, interviews, trailers, TV and Radio spots. These are really worth a watch/listen to hear how these films were made in the early 70’s with no rats harmed. It’s so good to see Ben available again after decades of obscurity, I only knew the remake of Willard so I grabbed this limited edition set while I could, the box is not numbered but I think only 1000 were made.A treat for rodent lovers, some fantastic camera work with real rats. For Horror fans these are very tame and slower paced than todays movies, if you’re not scared of rats don’t expect hair raising terror and bloody gore, there’s good storytelling, some chills, emotional and comical moments, Ben is only rated 12 but it builds up to some startling unforgettable scenes and is definitely the best of the two films for me and worth the purchase.

Blast from the past
I remember this film from the 70's and really enjoyed it. The last time I saw it must have been in the early 80's and had no hesitation in buying this Blu Ray. I really enjoyed watching it again and the fact they used real rats as there was no CGI in those days. I don't think directors can make films like this anymore as they rely more on computer imagery rather than using their brains. Willard starts off slowly but builds up to a satisfying ending. The blu ray quality is excellent and very clear for a 70's film. The sequel, Ben, is a continuation of Willard where a young boy takes over looking after the rats, and it's a little more gruesome than Willard. This is a great double feature with some interesting extras. The picture quality of Ben is not as good as Willard but this doesn't spoil the feature. Well worth buying the double films and you get a nice poster with the limited edition too.

Get it now before the price goes up
Two of the most underrated b-horror gems are finally released on blu ray for the first time on 2,000 only copies limited edition which means in time this set will cost a lot of money so get it now while the price is still low. Those movies are in top 5 movies about rats horror of all time together with movies like rats night of terror 1983 and a couple of more like Rats and Rodentz. Willard is the best of the two but it's sequel is also great plus the song BEN is great and the theme in this film. this set has superb picture and audio quality and also it has great extras like interviews and trailers with commentairies. if u are a horror fan and u love this animal horror sub genre then this set is for you.

Shouldn't be but is Region B
Please consider that I own an all-region blu ray player so I was prepared for the WILLARD/BEN box set from the UK to be region B as it stated. But, in my experience, when a european blu ray or DVD states that they are region B, often times that information turns out to be wrong and the disc is actually region free. With the WILLARD/BEN blu ray box set I was fairly certain that the region information would be wrong and that the UK box set would be region free just as it's US counterpart. Shout released both WILLARD and BEN separately at the same time that the UK box set was released in 2017. Both the US and UK releases of both movies mirrored the exact same bonus material. The bonus material is what basically determines whether a european release will be region free or region B depending on restrictions in place due to licensing issues concerning interviews, audio commentaries, EPK's etc...So, I was very surprised and somewhat disappointed to see that despite the identical cuts of both movies and the identical bonus materials that the WILLARD/BEN UK blu ray box set was still released region B and didn't get a more universal release for everyone to enjoy.

Buy both films at the same time.
Ahead of it's time, 'Willard' should be seen first, followed by 'BEN'. Both have stood the test of time.
