Perfect solution for backing up in Windows 10
I use this device on Windows 10.I also use two "My Passport portable hard drives" using "Smartware" and understand that this device is powered using WD Discovery and that the two systems may not be compatible. That said, I have had no difficulty whatever in installing and using this new device - and it has not affected the other two.It was pretty easy to install and then use for a full backup. I did find it particularly useful to be able to program it to back up monthly (it allows daily, weekly and monthly backups and variations thereof).I did have a slight problem when trying to password protect but discovered that the WD Security app was not downloaded when I initially installed, but this was easily solved by downloading direct from the WD site. After downloading I had to reboot and then it was plain sailing.I also like the password protection because (if lost) after 5 invalid attempts to log on the system is wiped clean.

Awesome drive
Awesome little drive. Great looks and included is a matching red cable too. Hopefully this one will perform flawlessly as any WD drive I ever had. It is a few mm thicker than the WD Elements 2TB drive I used before this one, but it does not matter. It is pre-formatted for pc and can be used straight out of the box, mac users will have to format it separately, or use an NTFS disk read/write utility.Very happy with this purchase, I will probably substitute the rest of my backup drives with color Passports.

Nice drive - but not as nice as the one it replaces.
Personally hate the Lego look. It's also more expensive than the older drive it replaces. The accessories pack(WDBFMT0000NBA-EASN) for the older drive doesn't fit (a rudder band that encases the side, protecting it from falls), but that's due to this drice now being square at the corners.Having said that. It is doing it's job so overall a good drive.

This Is The Fourth Such Drive I've Purchased - Suffice To Say I like Them
In the past year I have purchased four of these drives for use at home (three of them from Amazon). This is the PC formatted version destined for use with a SONY Bravia TV as a recording device. SInce most TV's require something formatted as either NTFS or FAT32 (i.e., for a PC), this is ideal. Plug it into a USB port on the TV, follow the manufacturer's instructions to set it up and then a few minutes later - Bingo! My TV now has 2 TB of storage space for HD TV recordings. Based on my usage so far, 2TB of HD content seems to translate into about 1000 hours of TV recordings. It's bus powered so there's no need for an external power supply, and it's quiet so it does not interfere with watching the TV.Would I recommend these drives? Yes. No question. As I said I have purchased four in the past year and all are working perfectly. One was a MAC formatted drive (by the manufacturer) and used on a MAC as a backup device while the other three were PC formatted, two of which were reformatted for use on a MAC. The one I've reviewed here was for a TV.

My first "Passport"
I was using a 4TB WD My Cloud in the past and I was impressed with the performance of it, so, I was looking of upgrading my 1 TB Seagate BackUp Plus because it started going slow and have bad sectors. Plus, I needed something bigger for my data.I knew that WD are stable and reliable but I wasn't expecting this. On an 500gb 5200rpm hdd and i3 computer, it transferred at 150-190 top, and 130 stable, on usb 3.0 - which is very good. On usb 2.0 it averages around 30mbps unfortunately but that's to be expected.Highly satisfied and I would recommend it.

Excellent external hard drive.
I struggled hard in deciding which portable hard drive to buy. Sometimes too much choice is a hindrance, when making a decision and there are plenty out there. However, I am delighted with my purchase. This external hard drive is excellent!

Blazing fast external drive
Very fast external drive. Very compact - I have an older WD drive, same capacity (and requires an external power source) which is much larger in size. Copy and move operations are very responsive. The built-in encryption is good for me (but requires Admin privileges to unlock, which may not be suitable for locked-down laptops). Nice colour - its not the blood red shown in the photos but a more pleasing shade.
