Volcanic Cooking Stone
Just like a volcanic mortar and pestle, this cooking stone requires a little curing as it may have some loose stones. Be careful when cooking foods with high fat content since the stone itself doesn’t have any way to drain the fat. It is a wonder to cook food on and stays hot for a long time. When done cooking, wash stone and completely dry before storing. In the pictures provided, I just finished washing it and I’m using a portable gas grill to completely dry it. I do wish I could get a bigger size since I have a big family. But I do like it and will recommend.Tip: Because the stone is porous, if you want to give it a good cleaning after cooking a meal containing lots of fat. First: give it a good wash (yes, you can use a mild dish soap and brush- wait till it’s warm to the touch and be careful not to change the temperature of the stone drastically, you don’t want to to crack). Second: Get a pot that is big enough to submerge the stone and boil it. The oil will float to the top and your stone will come out clean. This is how I’ve been cleaning my other stones for many years.
