Cool, but wait...this ship has no RUDDER!!!?!?!
First impression was wow...cool, then upon closer inspection....Have you ever seen a boat without a rudder? Yes, this model RC ship does not have a rudder! Crazy huh? (…now reading various R/C forums, it seems this is somewhat common on cheap rc toys.)Left / right turns are governed by two motors – vector thrust. I suppose two motors are cheaper than having a servo to control a rudder? The motor / control is full on/off - bang/bang no variable speed….shame…would’ve been cool to see this move at scale speed. So what happens is this thing moves like a speed boat….more like a surface torpedo exacerbated due to its somewhat scale narrow beam. Turning or reversing will cause the water to flood the entire poop deck. The instructions are not very well translated, but will just serve.Mine came with a missing port stern dock cleat…boo! The deck is screwed in several locations to the hull and somewhat easy to remove after you remove the rubber screw plugs. The rear section of the hull (just under the poop deck) has Styrofoam blocks…I suppose to keep the thing from sinking in reverse or turning (see above). The ship is weighted well, but my unit appears to be listing a bit towards starboard. The box says it has lights….but I did not see lights anywhere. Shame. Some cool things about this toy. The canons do rotate and barrels do tilt up and down. All the other bits and pieces are fixed. When you unbox it , you will need to assemble a few masts… I really like the hull shaping….just wish it had a rudder! The battery compartment is under the bridge section, which covers a battery cover. The battery looks like a couple of 18650 cells. The remote is probably the worst part of this kit. It feel flimsy and looks like they repurposed a cheap R/C car remote with a decorative helm wheel screwed on the knob to remind you that you’re controlling a boat. This boat has no rudder?! …still can’t get over that…. Back to my Neptune sb-1If I could, I would offer a 1.5 star.
