Good quality
I have both the 1.4x and 2x and most of the times cannot tell the difference. Good quality images, but the auto focus suffers.

It's Excellent, But Know What You're Buying!
So if you're looking at this product, I assume that you have a decent idea of what you're potentially buying and that if you had the money for a 300mm, 400mm or 600mm prime you would buy that instead. As money is tight, or if you're like me and are looking for maximum flexibility then keep reading.I have the 70-200mm GM II and I love it. I originally wanted the 100-400mm GM, but that lens is a little too tight at the short end. In comes the 2x teleconverter. With it I can still reach 400mm at f5.6, but between 100-200mm I can maintain an aperture of f2.8. The images are only perceivably softer if you're pixel peeping, and the difference in image quality is negligible.I encourage anyone thinking twice to just go ahead and buy this teleconverter. Even if I had the budget for all GM prime telephoto lesnes, I'd still own this teleconverter. It all depends on what you'll be using it for of course, but for me the flexibility of converting my 70-200 to a 140-400 just by adding this attachment far outweighs the cons, the only one that matters being the reduction in speed.

Pricey, but quality. Beware of drop in aperture.
Naturally, this reduces your aperture by half, so using this adapter with a 400mm/f5.6, you’re at 800mm/f11. Great picture quality, just as sharp as photos taken without it.

Not nearly good enough
Sorry to say that my experience to date with this teleconverter and the wonderful 70-200 GM lens has been very poor. I have tried two examples and both have degraded the IQ of the lens to an unacceptable degree and, given the price of both lens and converter, this is just not right. Sony are looking into this situation for me right now, but I am far from hopeful for a positive outcome. If it does work out well, I will update this review. At the very least is would suggest erratic quality control. I repeat, the lens itself is superb!Update: Sony checked the lens, and replaced the teleconverter unit. The lens was just fine, but the poor image quality of the combination remains, and along with the randomness of the AF, makes this unit unusable, in my opinion.

Typical Sony Build Quality, But Not Sharp Enough
I tried this with the Sony 70-200GM ii, which is an insanely sharp lens. Too sharp for the teleconverter. It simply can’t keep up, so you lose significant sharpness. Hence I returned it after testing.
