Repairing a broken off opening stalk on the lid of an Art Nouveau pewter carafe holder seemed very complicated for an amateur and, if not carried out effectively, ruinous to an expensive piece. Specialised antique pewter repair was ridiculously expensive, pinning the small fragment was not possible and I was highly doubtful about the advisability of using glue. Nevertheless, after much research, I decided to try Loctite 454. Despite being expensive for a small tube, it was a revelation and more than justified its price. Holding the very small piece steadily in place was difficult and I doubted that it would stick but after half a minute I was able to apply pressure to the stalk and open the lid with it. The turning force applied was significant - nothing short of a miraculous permanent repair! The Bearing Shop suppliers were efficient and attentive.

Although this glue is expensive it is very impressive at bonding items of all sorts. You need to be very careful when using it as you fingers can become bonded very easily. Use as per instructions and it gives unbelivable results.
