TROPICA - Stone Pine (Pinus pinea) - 6 SeedsWorth knowing: Being a member of the pine-family, the Stone Pine is the only species that can be grown indoors. This elegant plant of charming southern appearance is grown in pots or tubs. Long, soft and shining green needles produce the umbel-like crown that is so typical of the pines.Origin: These pine is indigenous to the Mediterranean region only.Propagation: Seeds can be started indoors any time throughout the year. Soak the seeds in water at room temperature for about 12 hours and place them on moist seed starting soil afterwards. Cover the seeds with an additional layer of soil, 1 cm thick. With temperatures between 20° and 25°C, first seeds should germinate after 7 to 10 days.Place / Light: The Stone Pine loves a bright and sunny place. An outdoor position from May until September is possible as well.Care: Ground consisting of 2 parts standard or garden soil to 1 part sand is ideal. The plant is very resistant to dryness and heat, so that it doesn‘t need regular watering. Fertilizer should be supplied in intervals of 3 weeks from April until October. Repot the plant every 2 to 3 years.Winter period: The Stone Pine is not winter-hardy and bigger frost damages already occur at temperatures of - 8°C.
