Needs a smoking chamber making (plastic box will do) but really good buy, great for a hobbyist / starting out
Really good for foodies! My dad took up smoking ( fish and meat not cigarettes ) and was delighted with the hot smoker he was given for Christmas. He was trying to decided how to make a cold smoker himself when I found this online and got as a present for him for his birthday. Its far more convenient for a hobbyist and the only construction he had to do was the slight modification of a large plastic storage box into a smoking chamber. The burner does have a tendency to go out if left in the wrong conditions and it does take a little bit of experimentation to get it right but now its sorted we are treated to lots of lovely home smoked salmon and other treats. Brilliant little kit.

Impressive Start Up Kit for Cold Smoking
A terrific book, the best Cold Smoking accessory on the market. Purchased to allow the use of my Weber BBQ. A good selection of wood dusts which have worked a treat with cheese, peppers eggs etc.I have read a few books on Cold Smoking. This one really impressed me.

First time use - very pleased with the results.
Would have been 5 stars but while I'm very impressed by it, I think it is over-priced.Used mine for the first time today with my Landmann gas smoker cabinet - great for cold smoking too. I did 2 large blocks of cheddar (which I cut up into 6 pieces first). I got 10 hours of smoke from one fill and the cheese turned out wonderful - check out the photo.

An awesomely wonderful product which will impress
What an absolutely ideal present for a man. Yes, this might be a bit of a sexist review, but this product totally appeals to that section of the male population who is competitive, who likes to cook, enjoys lighting fires, smoke, science and producing something that even the most accomplished chef can't just rustle up. It requires careful experimentation, note taking, time and subtlety. The results are astonishing - home prepared oak smoked salmon, smoked garlic, applewood smoked cheese, hickory smoked nuts, smoked pheasant breasts, venison, home-made smoked sausages. This is definitely a product to impress, and the book accompanying it is fantastically informative for any would-be smoker. (The house smells wonderful too, even though we put this in our ProQ smoker outside the back door). Recommended.

At Last!
Whilst hot smoking equipment has been available to Jo Public for many years cold smoking has long been the preserve of professional smoke houses, mainly because of the problems of getting a long enough smoking period without heat, which would cook the food. Now with this simple piece of kit anyone with a hot smoker or kettle-type BBQ (or a couple of cardboard boxes and some oven racks!) can easily produce cold-moked food.Out of the box the instructions are clear and easy to understand and you can be up and running in minutes, provided you have prepared the food to be smoked. Once filled the dust ignites easily and the 100gm included with every generator will give a 10-hour smoke. Unlike wood chips used in hot smoking the dust does not burn, it simply smoulders; the web site has a short video clip showing a simple cardboard smoker being set up and ignited. Food is then placed on a grid above the generator and the lid put back onto the BBQ. Unlike a conventional BBQ the vents do not need to be wide open, just enough to draw the smoke up.This starter set is particularly good value as along with the recently published Smoky Jo recipe book the additional four 200gm packs of smoking dust give 80 hours of smoking time. However, it does not end there. A drip pan will be needed between the generator and the food. Also some sealable food-grade storage boxes (not metal) to cure/bine the food to be smoked. The same outlet sells a useful BBQ/smoker basket for smaller items of food which will fit both sizes of Webber charcoal BBQs and I also use a rib rack to hold whole fish upright as this gives a more even smoke, both of which are dishwasher friendly. There are also plenty of recipe books available but initially stick to British ones like Kieth Erlandson's or Dick and James Strawbridge as some of the American recepies can be a bit whacky. At last - enjoy.

Exactly what you need for cold smoking! I can’t compare to other cold smoking implements but this smoker works great but can raise the temp slightly in smaller box’s
