Fossils (DK Handbooks)

I brought this book at the same time as another thinking they were different, they actually weren’t but this one’s an updated version of the other so has some extra info in it , was super cheap so I didn’t mind too much. Informative and beautiful pictures, something guaranteed with every DK book and the main reason I’ve been enjoying them since the 90s! Always well worth the money.

I have bought quite a few children's books on fossils for my eight year old son, and while some are lovely, none are really much good when you are trying to identify a fossil. This is an excellent book with very good detailed photos, a drawing of each species as it may have looked when living, brief information on each species including its size, order, family group, which period it lived in, distribution and occurrence. There is also a short paragraph describing each fossil, notes on habitat and in many cases a few extra titbits on info under remarks.This book was detailed enough that I really enjoyed it, but easy enough to understand that it was completely accessible to my eight year old son, and quite useful even for my five year old. My oldest was able to identify an unknown fossil in his collection on the first day, and another a few days later making this book a huge success. I especially liked the fact that the main focus was on the most common fossils. Sure my child would love to uncover a Megalosaurus or something, but it isn't terribly likely. This book covers many the fossils the average collector is more apt to be able to find or buy for a reasonable price.If you are looking for really extensive details on any given species, this book will not suffice. But it will help you discover exactly what you have so you can look up more details later.

I bought this book for my brother who wants to be a palaeontologist, its very descriptive and factual, not story time reading! He loved this book though and there is an abundance of interesting information for those curious about fossils.

Excellent book for basic information about alot of fossil types. Written a little bit in layman's terms but I can't knock it for that. It's been very useful.

Bought it for the wife has we have been fossil hunting a couple of times and she is pleased with it.
