Unlike several of the other options out there, this is actually non-woven. It is a good thickness, you can hold it in place with staples with no ripping tearing (unless you get crazy!). You can see light through it, but basically just if you hold it up to a light - just about perfect blend of toughness but still allowing water/air to flow through it, for use as a soil separator or wrap for french drain or other type of drainage usage. You CAN tear this, but it takes a lot, or an existing hole (from a staple temporarily holding it), it can also be punctured/torn from a hoe or similar tool with a sharp edge. Beyond that, if you give it enough slack, I have full confidence in it holding to wrap my french drain.I am using it for >200 ft. of french drain, up to 18" deep and up to 12" wide. This being 6' wide works great - there is almost always excess that I have cut off (1' to 3') and reused or saved for the future. Because it is non-woven and doesn't fray, the excess can easily be stored without deteriorating (fraying) and reused. I'll save it for managing other weed control and edging or minor drainage projects compared to this mammoth one.Note: If you see a color strip running down geotextile fabric, it is almost for sure woven - that is typically a differently colored strand.This is NOT woven fabric, which generally doesn't let as much water/air through (it's less permeable). Woven fabric is typically better for weed control, but Non-woven is much better for drainage purposes. Non-woven should be used for wrapping pipes and french drains (stone/sand and other filtering materials) to keep soil and other particulates out of the drain, while still allowing water through.

Great for my sub-surface drainage application. Held up well during installation and although not as wide as I originally wanted to buy, is a convenient size for handling (and shipping), was plenty wide enough for the shallow end of my run of pipe and easily overlapped where I needed wider fabric.For the deeper (2'-4') trench run I pinned fabric to top edge/sides of trench (leaving enough to overlap after filling with stone) and then laid in a third segment at the bottom of the trench ( in a "U" like position, figuring silt won't travel up under the side wall then over the bottom section, given the rate (110 gpm per square foot) water flows though this fabric). After placing the fabric I added a little washed stone to the bottom, ran my perforated pipe and filled the trench with more stone. At the top I overlapped the extra and added a few inches of stone to hold the flaps down. Job done for driveway section but intend to spread a thin layer of topsoil across the trench in the spring for the lawn area. Overall VERY satisfied with the quality and happy I found this on Amazon because the local builders supply doesn't carry this TYPE of filter fabric material.

This material is very tough. I haven't experienced it after it has been weathered for years, but I've used some spare material for a whole bunch of purposes that it wasn't intended for over the last 5 months, and it is still extremely durable. When a rip or hole is started somewhere, it will not easily shred from that point (you can pull at the hole with both hands, and it is nearly impossible to rip). I've used it as a mud carpet, ran over it with a cart full of 200+ lbs of mud hundreds of times, used it as a bug screen, used it for compost insulation, etc. It is a very useful material. I originally purchased it for a 3" french drain that I installed around my house. I haven't buried all of the top of the fabric yet, as I'm wanting to get an idea of how its doing under the gravel by leaving a small portion of it exposed.One problem I've noticed is that when I wrapped a bucket to house my sump-pump in a hole I'm digging by hand, it rather easily got clogged up with clay from muddy water. Once the fabric gets loaded with clay particles, the water paths become slowed down considerably. But it was very muddy water - and oddly, the water that was pumped out looked almost clean (showing how well it stops clay particles from going through). Once the fabric was given a couple sprays of less muddy water, the routes opened up again. I'm just hoping this is something that can happen through rain after it is buried into a french drain.Paying over $100 for fabric seems like a hefty cost, but this stuff is pretty versatile. I came back to buy another load. One warning is that "stink bugs" love this stuff. So keep it wrapped in something to protect it during storage.

Can't really tell if it's working yet, just covered it up for basement footer drain. Material was very strong, only tore it once and I was really pulling on it. It does stretch some, wich is good. Definitely much better construction and price compared to what's available at big box stores and comes in varied widths and lengths.

Used this to line length of a French drain. Material is thick and appears durable. Easy to cut with a razor blade for splitting into smaller lengths/widths. Worked great for my project and a step above your generic landscape fabric where you want to let water pass, but keep particulate out

Not 100% grass control

This is heavy, thick, and durable.I've used it to ensure proper drainage in a retaining wall, and will be using it soon for another project. It seems to work well, I'll let you know about it's longevity in 5-10 years.

It has been in the ground for about 2 months now. I lined a new dry well with it then filled it with 3/4 stone. It was easy to work with in the 6' wide roll. It cuts simply with a utility knife or scissors. I am planning on it keeping the fines out as water flows out of it for the dry well. As I walked on the fabric and moved stone with my boots and shovel the fabric held up nicely, no tares.As an ADDED BONUS since it is a tough non-degradable fabric I used it as weed blocking fabric!! Holy Cow this works great. It is way better than the standard stuff you get at the box stores. The 6' width is really nice to work with and folding it under just makes it double layered:)
