EsschertDesign NKB2 24 x 15 x 9cm Swallow Nest - Grey

We bought two of these as we are wildlife enthusiasts. They were fixed to our garage wall, north-facing and at a good height. Both were occupied the same year. One was occupied by a Swallow and the other by a House Martin!!! Unfortunately a bird of prey descended on the nests and caused the birds to leave. All that was visible after the attack was nesting material on the ground directly below the cups. Such a shame. We are thinking about re-siting them. They are of good quality and size.

I renovated an outside garden kitchen over the winter and in the process I had to remove last year's swallow nest. I've been feeling guilty about as I know how much effort they made to construct it initially and how they have been updating it for the past three years. So I decided to buy and install this one as a replacement. I can see the swallows should be back in just a short time from now So their new penthouse flat is ready and waiting. Let's hope they like it as much as I do. I was wondering whether to put some straw in it but I don't want to inadvertently put them off. I think I will just put a little pile of straw near the nest so they can add some bedding if they want with not too much effort.

Within weeks of putting up four of these in my Stables, a pair of birds have moved in and now have chicks.

I bought this for my wife who was concerned that the barn swallow nest under our patio has fallen the last 2 years after it got wet (once by us rinsing our patio with a hose). We were skeptical that they would use the fabricated nest and figured they would build near it instead. My wife was delighted when they built in this nest, though the actual nest they built isn't as "nice" as those they show in some of the photos.
