Voice Dialer
I bought this for my mother, and after a few problems with set up, it works fine and she loves it. The problem was, I thought I had to replace the cord between the phone and the plug with the cord that was supplied. In truth, I was supposed to add the supplied cord so that the vocal box was powered, and the phone remained powered. After I figured that out, the thing worked great. We were also pleased to find that after voices were added, the voice dialer also worked with the hand-held phone that came with my mother's base phone.Since she has lost her central vision, this product was exactly what she needed. She is no longer cut off from friends and family because of an inability to dial their number. Also, the lady with whom I spoke at the company's office was very helpful, going out of her way to track me down to return my phone call, using various addresses, etc. That, to me, was 'going the extra mile,' and I really appreciated it.

Did not work!
I got this for my mother who is 84 and has macular degeneration in her eyes so it is difficult for her to lookup and read phone numbers. My smart phone has excellent voice recognition technology that can dial any saved phone numbers by anyone's voice. This was what I was expecting with this land-line device. I was WRONG. After a frustrating hour of "training" the unit with my mother's voice, the unit was only able to successfully dial the correct number about 50% of the time. After trying it for two weeks, my mom fianlly gave up in frustration. Thank heaven we were able to return the item and get a refund. If someone can put the same technology found in smart phones into a device like this it would be awesome for the blind or nearly blind.

life much easier
I gave this handsfree dialer to my aunt who recently had a stroke and is unable to use one hand. In addition she has macular degeneration which limits her eyesight drastically. This has enabled her to be independent and socialize on the phone. Extremely easy to set-up and once set-up, nothing else to do except say the name into the phone for it to do the dialing for you. Best item I have ever purchased and would highly recommend.

Vocally 3 Handsfree Freedom Voice Dialer
I purchased this unit for my 92-year old mother who has macular degeneration. Although there would have been help available to set it up and she had told me to get it for her, she decided she did not want to learn something new and sent it back. This was not the fault of the product, but I am unable to give it a rating for that reason.

Great product
Great product for my elderly 89 year-old father with blindness. This gives him the ability to stay in touch which was not possible when he had to manually dial the numbers. Careful reading of the instructions before beginning the process is essential but then it is a breeze to program. I recommend it highly.

After sight-assisted set-up, a breeze!
With your phone plugged into this product, you pick up the receiver and a female voice says "Name to dial please", and the user states the name that he or she has already recorded - preferably EXACTLY as recorded or it may choose wrong entry. The device responds by stating who it's dialing, at which point you allow it to continue if correct or disconnect and start over if by chance it offers the wrong selection. This is RARE. We are so grateful for this device which of 6 voice-activated cell phones and numerous other voice-activated devices we have tried, this is the ONLY one that consistently responds to and correctly interprets my mother's voice. Further, it has worked flawlessly for several consecutive years. Note that this model only responds to names, while others in the line will respond to spoken numbers as well.Note this: If someone does not want to use the device to make a call, after the "Name to dial, please", simply press any number key to get to a dial tone and dial as normal. The device is voice-specific: The intended user must speak the names to be recorded, and someone must then enter the phone numbers, including the "1" and area code for long distance. For this reason I think it would be difficult for a visually impaired person to do the initial phone set up.It is essentially a small "brick" to which you attach your own phone that holds roughly 40 voice-recorded names and manually entered phone numbers. Longer names and numbers take more memory, so if you have several long entries, you may not be able to store as many. A great device - has been reliable and worked without flaw at least 5 years for us.Update 1/19/13: Almost immediately after writing this glowing review, we began to have difficulties with this older unit, but it served so well for so long, ordered a new one, the Vocally Freedom. After doing an "erase all" on the older unit, we have re-entered some of the names and numbers and use in on a separate phone in the house - and it is working fine. The new unit works fine, but periodically announces "Name to dial please" or "Freedom Mode" during calls in a quiet, muffled background kind of voice. Still satisfied but could do without the announcements.

BIGGEST PIECE OF CRAP. IT ALMOST NEVER WORKS!
This product is dreadfully incompetent to do the job. It almost never recognizes my voice and I wind up having to manually dial a number. This is my second device.......STAY AWAY!!!!!
