Manfrotto 349 Column Clamp

It's good and sturdy but slightly pricy

Expensive but reassuringly robust, have used this several times now with a spotting scope or a heavy camera. It works very well and is clearly a very well engineered bit of kit.

The centre column of my Manfrotto tripod, which I detach from the tripod when using this, has an strange six sided cross section. With three flat+three curved sides, I was not sure the clamp would hold it - IT DOES ! The tightening arm on the clamp could be improved, but works. By using the tripod head I already had (and like) it kept the price down, but is still expensive in my view. It should last forever, the only weak spot is the plastic liner that grips the inserted tube on the head. Wobble free with a heavy scope on board, the only "play" coming from the shelf it was fixed on. A good purchase.

Rock solid!Yes a little pricey, but the build quality is excellent (even the threads on the grub screw are greased!). Used for the first time in a bird hide yesterday, simple, no fuss, sturdy. So much better that the tripod fiasco inside a hide.

I recently bought my first gimbal tripod head (Movo GH700) for wildlife photography using a Sigma 150-600mm on an APS-C DSLR (Canon 80D). When shooting from a bird hide this clamp allows me to use my gimbal head mounted on my tripod's centre column and attach it firmly to the hide's drop-down shutter. This makes working from the hide so much easier than using a tripod and trying to position it over bench seats etc.In my review of the gimbal head I said it was probably the best photographic accessory I'd bought for 20 years. This clamp runs it a close second! However, if you're not into bird / wildlife photography from a hide with drop-down shutters it may not be for you! :-)I use a manfrotto tripod that has a rounded triangular centre column and it clamps this in place rock-solid. I believe there are 2 versions of the clamp for different centre column sizes so do check that.

A MOST useful piece of kit, a tripod in a hide is cumbersome, the fact that this is light and easy to carry - it can stay attached too - is a real PLUS. The only negative factor is the price. OUCH!!*?!!!!!P.S. This clamp WILL fit the Swarovski badged, Manfrotto tripod, despite its unusual (triangular, yet rounded?) centre column.P.P.S. YES, this clamp WILL (WILL!!!!) fit the somewhat unusually contoured Manfrotto tripod centre columns!!! (see above?)

I was little dubious after looking at the gripping mechanism when I received the clamp, but I took the centre column out of Manfrotto tripod and gave it a try - it's actually very good !

Good quality and very sturdy however its very expensive for what it is. The Jaw Opening could do with being wider as some hides I have been in the Jaws don't open wide enough, that said it should be OK for the vast majority. If the Jaw Width was wider and the price was cheaper it would have been 5 Stars

Exactement ce que je cherchais pour monter ma longue vue dans un abris/affût d’observation pour oiseaux.Permet de fixer la longue vue dans l’affut et ne pas être gêné avec les pieds du tripied.

Beim ersten Montageversuch hat sich die bewegliche Klammer von der Stell-Schraube gelöst (mittels kleiner ca. M3 Gewindestange gekoppelt), Die bewegliche Backe hat sich verkantet und nichts ging mehr vorwärts oder Rückwärts.Für ein 1€ China-Teil mag sowas erwartbar sein, aber nicht unter dem Namen Manfrotto zum stolzen Preis von 80 €.Fazit: Überteuerte Fehlkonstruktion. Klare Empfehlung: NICHT KAUFEN !
