One of my dog's favorites
this toy is one of my dog's absolute favorites. the only reason for 4 stars is how sharp it gets after she's been chewing on it. Like all the Nylabone items it does get sharp, don't know who they can help that but ouch, and it does tend to scratch her mouth and make it sore as well.

Overpriced
I bought these from my dog for a very long time so I know the price history. There’s no amount of inflation to justify raising these from $4.99 to $8.99 in eight weeks. Doesn’t matter to me whether that kind of a price like comes from the manufacturer or the seller it’s called price gouging. Nylon is nylon it should not even be made to put in our environment. But no that is almost a 100% price increase in eight weeks this is what causes runaway inflation and I won’t be part of causing that in the country this is called corrupt capitalism and sellers sometimes even have old stock and I see that around in the stores and they re-sticker it to get more money. It’s wrong but that’s the American way. Don’t buy these because there’s other things wrong with them they only last very briefly even with Mile chewing this nylon splinters into little pieces of spikes on the ends at that point the dog can’t join it anymore because it hurts his gums happens after just a few uses at 499 I didn’t mind. But I cannot afford $8.99 for just a few uses as a sign I shouldn’t be putting this kind of toxic stuff into the environment anymore.

My dog LOVES this Nylabone
My dog is addicted to this Nylabone. I have bought many different chew toys for her and this one is by far her favorite. I probably bought her about five of them, by now. She is a compulsive chewer and I need something which she can chew safely. She went through her destructive puppy chewing stage last year - even though she was one year old when we got her - and the kitchen table and chair legs got pretty much destroyed before I leaned about Nylabones. I did a fair amount of research and learned where hoofs (which she also likes) can break their teeth. Lots of people wrote in about broken dog teeth secondary to the hoofs and expensive vet bills thereafter. Other people wrote in about the hazards of the large basted real animal bones which break into shards and cause diarrhea from bacterial contamination. She had weeks of very bad diarrhea from a rawhide product I bought her - never again! I also learned that rawhide can be very dangerous for some dogs. It is not a safe bet. Bully sticks were fine (she loved them) but they are very expensive and she goes though one of them in about 5 minutes tops - then it was onto the chair legs. Pig ears were greasy and brought about yet more diarrhea - and they lasted about 5 minutes also. The diarrhea lasted considerably longer and was very messy to clean up. It was all getting pretty discouraging. Either they risk breaking their teeth on hooves or they get sick (even die) on other animal products or they chew up your table legs. At last, I discovered Nylabones. Great choice. It is safe and the dog likes them. She absolutely attacks her Nylabones fiercely and they stand up to this sort of abuse. She is a border collie but a very aggressive chewer. I tried all manner of Nylabones and this one works out the best. I also tried a whole bunch of Kong toys which people swear by but my dog is not interested in any of them. After trying out virtually every chew product out there - some with disastrous results - Nylabones are, hsands down, my choice of dog chew product.

Perfect chew toy, but must be replaced
I really like these chew toys. I didn't think my dog would actually like them because they're hard as rock, but the second I hand it to her starts gnawing away and is occupied for hours. I would have given this 5 stars but there's a few little things I don't like. For one, these aren't meant to last very long. It says right on the packaging that it needs to be replaced once little plastic pieces start coming off. This would be fine if my dog chewed more evenly. She tends to bite on one corner and never touches the other sides, so we end up having to buy another one fairly quickly. And they aren't cheap when you have to buy them regularly. The other thing I don't like is the side that has little dots. As soon as my dog starts chewing on one of those sides, I'm super afraid she's going to cut her gums. The bumps get really sharp really fast even when the rest of the toy still looks brand new. The other ridges and styles work fine, just wish they wouldn't use those dots. Also, the middle orange part is just a waste. I've never once seen my dog chew on the middle so it really seems pointless.Overall, it will definitely keep your dog occupied for hours. Just keep in mind that its not meant to be chewed on forever. You'll have to buy another one pretty soon.

Small
Small compared to picture. More for my yorkie, not my retriever

Good for Aggressive Chewers
We have two golden retrievers, both of whom are aggressive chewers. We don't even consider buying anything other than Nylabone or Kong. Even then, if it doesn't advertise "for aggressive chewers," we don't take the chance--either from a safety or a $$ perspective. This item is better than most we've tried (we bought the largest size Amazon had) because they last longer, are very interesting to the dogs, have dental cleaning properties, and they are less expensive than similar bones. We bought one, and we liked it so much we bought another. Although they don't look very good any more (the orange part was chewed off little by little), they are still in use after several months. Just to compare, we have had other synthetic bones--even Nylabones--that didn't last even a month and cost at least $10 more.We have raised all our goldens with Nylabones, and believe it or not, no vet has ever felt the need to clean their teeth because they do so much chewing. Honestly, we ASK, and the vet says it's not needed. This can save you money, time and the inherent danger to your dog from anesthesia (even though slight). Why only four stars for this product then? Well, because the orange center part DID come off, and the chewed ends of the bone are a little pointy from all the chewing. But all said, we would still recommend these. If you have a milder chewer, this could last quite a long time!

Changed my review, please read update!!!
Same as all the other nylabone toys/chews I buy, I could buy one or could buy 100 and they always want the same one.Worse than kids, I must of bought all different varieties of these and they always want the latest edition, if these are on offer they are great prices. Last well and the dogs love them. I’ve tried everything and seen my dogs wreak them in seconds or don’t last long at all, I get at least a month out of one of these!!UPDATE: I’ve changed my review to 1 star. my dogs got this for Christmas and as you can see it’s 18th January and the thing is wreaked, lots of small parts fallen off and very sharp for the dogs mouth! I have bought lots of nylabones and this one has to be the worst. I will replace this with another nylabone but this one has to be the worst one in the range. DO NOT BUY!!

Great Long Lasting Chew
Great hard wearing chew. I got this on around 20th February 2015, so say its now 2 months old. I've attached some pictures to show you what 2 months of chewing looks like. Its slightly worn on the ends, but nothing serious. Great compared to some of the other chews I've tried, which lasted less than a few hours. The dog likes it and so far hasn't tried to bury it. Its quite heavy, so if your thinking of using it as a retrieve toy - don't, it could easily take a window out, or do some serious damage if it clonked someone on the head. Definitely recommended for hard chewing dogs.

Still standing up to a puppy and 7 year old Border Collie
We bought the large one for our 11 month old Border Collie who is a massive chewer. He has managed to break just about everything we have bought him so far. However after 8 days of chewing this Nylabone he has met his match. Chew as he might he isn't getting very far. As with all nylon bones the edges scuff a little and are a bit sharp but that is having no effect on either him or the bone. Our 7 year old Border Collie who is an ardent shredder got a hold of it and tried shredding the middle section - now he has met his match too.The large is plenty big enough for them, in fact a medium would probably do as well as I don't think it would be too small.

Very sharp when chewed.
Within a very short space of time, less than half an hour, Monty had managed to chew this till there were very sharp pieces sticking up. It didn't seem to bother him although it's uncomfortable for me if he's on my lap! I don't know if these pieces will break off so will need to be vigilant. He seems to enjoy the bone, although not as much as some of his other toys. I didn't think Monty was a particularly aggressive chewer compared to larger breeds, i.e. labs or staffies, as he is a 11lbs, 4 month old Schichon (Bichon/Shih Tzu cross) but he managed to damage this toy very easily, so for owners of large breed puppies, this bone is probably not suitable for your fur baby.

I just don't get it
Whose idea was it to make a "bone" out of plastic and then flavour it, so that a dog is tricked into chewing it? Net result is that the dog ingests tiny pieces of plastic! The "bone" surface becomes extremely rough, with sharp pointed plastic spurs, that hurt the dogs mouth and gums if you don't continually sandpaper them down. Totally stupid piece of kit. Just give the dog a real bone (beef preferably), deer antler or similar. As a play toy it's too hard and dog quickly loses interest. Also, the added "flavour" can't be that attractive, as my voracious terrier pretty much ignores it most of the time. Eating tiny bits of plastic is not a good idea for dogs.
