Redneck Volume 1: Deep in the Heart (Redneck, 1)

Excellent story .Excellent art .

More a 3.5 star review. I liked it but did not love it. The storyline was decent as was the artwork. It just wasn't great. Enjoyed going through the centuries old battle between the Bowman's and the Landry's. Each family has had issues with each other. Same ole story but with a vampire twist to it. The artwork was colorful, enjoyable and creepy sometimes. They did an excellent job on grandpa. There was an occasion that I couldn't tell the difference between some characters but it was not a constant problem. I would continue on with their story.

Explores the pathos of a vampire clan in a world where vampirism is partly accepted.

Being from Texas I liked the concept. it would make a good mini series for TV

Great story

No bag and board and my comics were bent

Donny Cates has been getting pretty popular lately, so I checked out his Image title on a whim. Redneck tells the story of the Bowman family, a vampire clan living Texas, running a butcher shop and trying to keep a low profile. Pfff, yeah right.On the good side, I feel Cates definitely proves himself as a competent writer. He captures the southern dialect perfectly, and the plot kept me on the edge of my seat. The characters he focused on felt like real people, and I would like to see more of them, but this is where the problem comes.Part of his set up is that the Bowman clan is feuding with a family of humans. However, the humans don't really get a lot of development, and the story doesn't really provide a justification for why the Bowman's don't wipe them out. Given the way the first arc ends, I'm not really sure where they go from here.
