some old classics and a lot more that are... new to you!
I bought this to play for my kid, but I think it might actually be better for HIM to learn from if he's interested in learning guitar (there are some basic chord and strum instructions in the beginning) if he is interested around age 6 or 7. Song list as follows: "Down By The Station" "Good Morning Mister Railroadman" "Row Row Row Your Boat" "London Street" "Hickory Dickory Dock" "Love Somebody" "The Centipede and the Frog" "The Hunting Horn" "Who Did Swallow Jonah?" "One Meat Ball" "Ah Poor Bird" "Go In and Out the Window" "The Spider and the Fly" "The Fox" "Nine Pound Hammer" "Come Follow" "Solfa Canon" "Heaven and Earth" "Sourwood Mountain" "Morning Is Come" "Alphabet Song" "I Had a Rooster" "Shortnin' Bread" "Bill Groggin's Goat" "Animal Fair" "Where Would You Like to Be?" "It Ain't Gonna Rain No More" "Who Are You?" "Sarasponda" "The Little Bells of Westminster" "Pity the Poor Potat" "Old Abram Brown" "Off to Bed Now" "Tinga Layo" "Hoosen Johnny" "Father's Whiskers" "Sleep Baby Sleep" "Baa Baa Black Sheep" "Mary Had a Little Lamb" "It's How We Drive the Winter Out" "Let Everyone" "Humpty Dumpty" "This Is My Little House" "Polly Wolly Doodle" "Old King Cole" "Sing a Song of Sixpence" "Sweet Be Your Sleep" "Oats Peas Beans and Barley Grow" "Three Little Piggies" "Chocolate Candy" "Sweetly Sings the Donkey" "Hey Diddle Diddle" "Greetings" "There Was an Old Woman" "Three Blind Mice" "Basay Down" "Little Things" "All the Pretty Horses" "White Sands and Grey Sands" "Charley Over the Water" "Jenny Jenkins" "mister Rabbit" "I've Been Working on the Railroad" "Michael Finnegan" "Ten Little Indians" "Pease Porridge Hot" "Sing Your Way Home" "Little Jack Horner" "There Was a Crooked Man" "The More We Get Together" "If You're Happy and You Know it" "The Old Brass Wagon" "Ladybird Ladybird" "Over the River" "Pop Goes the Weasel" "A Tisket a Tasket" "Eency Weency Spider" "It's Raining" "John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt" "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" "Some Folks Do" "Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush" "This Old Man" "Shoo Fly" "Old MacDonald Had a Farm" "The Farmer in the Dell" "Bingo" "Hey Ho Nobody Home" "Sandy Land" "She'll Be Comin' Round the Mountain" "Skip to My Lou" "Hush Little Baby" "Lullaby" "Are You Sleeping" "London Bridge" "Rock-a-Bye Baby" "The Muffin Man" "Ring Around the Rosy" "Thumbkin" "Cock Robin"

Awesome music for Special Needs Adults
This was just what I was looking for. I work with Special Needs Adults and my supervisor wanted me to start a music program and we are making homemade musical instruments and I needed music that they know. I have tons of music, but nothing that they are really familiar with.

Nicely thought out and easy to use but too "classic"
A nice little soft cover book with tons of classic kid songs. Well thought out with suggestions for strumming and additional versus below. A book with beginner to intermediate guitarists in mind. Most songs only require 2-4 open chords per song. That said, the songs are all indeed classics so the average person 40 and under won't know the majority of these songs unless they have had exposure to something like a toddler music program. I am 42 and have taught Kinder and have a degree in musical theatre and I don't even know most of these songs. Not to mention, singing kids old slave songs from the south doesn't always go over so well in post 1950 America but that's another story entirely. That's the only reason I gave it 3 stars. The content is a bit too "classic" imho but that's just me.

Fun to play and super easy!
This is a great book for learning chords and practicing how to play them smoothly in a song. It's definitely a guitar book for beginners! EVERY nursery rhyme you ever heard as a kid is in here, along with quite a few I've never heard of. It's easy to learn the songs since you already know the melody. Each song has about 3 chords, and the songbook gives you examples of making the chords easier by playing only 4 strings with 1 or 2 notes on them.

Check the list of songs included
Not all the songs had the melodies we were used to. Many songs we had never heard

Great book for beginning guitarists
Great book for beginners like me. This book has traditional children's songs (no Disney) in easy keys. The introductory material is very helpful too. There is an index that sorts the songs by how many chords they require. An added helpful feature is that for each song, the starting note of the melody on the guitar is provided. I spent a long time looking a different books of children's songs, and I'm so glad I picked this one.

a good start
I bought this book to learn children songs so I can play for my daughter. It does contain songs and rhymes for children but the selection is outdated; I found the three songs that I would actually play. This book is all right but if you want to learn certain songs you should find the music sheets for them.

Good book, not for Kindle
I agree with the previous reviews that this is a good book, with many helpful tips. I purchased the Kindle version and the font/type is just to small to be read on the handheld. I was able to view it on a large screen using Kindle for pc, but would not recommend it. Go with the paperback on this one.
